The corporate history of Microsoft is full of predatory and monopolistic behaviour and tax avoidance so it's hardly a big stretch to think they would not behave ethically.

This is hard to deny.  It is also hard to imagine that they got their strategy so wrong, that they have limited their sales to over 1 million in less than a month.  I just wish I could get things so wrong occasionally. 

I think their target is the xbox genre and they have sucked in so many simmers, who incidently are quite happy with what they have so far.  Think potential, potential, potential.

The lack of future 3PDs in MSFS may well inhibit their sales to less than 2 million and I can only guess what a financial calamity that would be. 

I still prefer P3D for overall excellence but, we have to face the fact that, MSFS is well ahead of the game when it comes tp scenery (accurate or not) 

P3D and Xplane have not, and will not, just roll over and die ... they have a development plan which may not be transparent, but it is there.  Just imagine what P3D would be like with Google Earth scenery streamed, and the same applies to XPlane.

My money is on both these platforms to survive and to compete with MSFS in the near future.

The good thing is that the simming community will ultimately be the winners and we have a lot to look forward to in the future.

I have no doubt that Microsoft would "starve" some third party developers if the alternative (otherwise known as the XBox market) would be more lucrative.

The most surprising thing to me is that they haven't used the software to deny 3rd party installation and instead forced all addons thru the marketplace so they get their cut

Not yet, but that may come. They can easily explain that with "compatibility reasons" and its also make sense that the SDK developement may also stagnate soon They go for mass market, mark my words.

And when someday the market is saturated and its going to not get any money out they can easily pull the plug. "Bye bye streamed scenery".
