GTN not showing anymore (resolved)

Recommended Posts

I haven't started XP11 in a long time.  But I loaded up my trusty Aerobask Legacy with RXP GTN 750.  Screen won't turn on.

Avionics are on with battery

I have latest RXP update (2.5.27.0)

XP11 is updated to latest

Legacy is updated to latest

Is it possible my Windows 10 defender thing is blocking something?  edit....not the issue...I still have the proper DLLs 64 and 32

Hi Ryan,

This looks like an issue in accessing the non volatile memory files:
https://www.qwant.com/?q=site%3Aavsim.com+hwm_nand_drvr_sim

Picking one of the results (see the recommend post at the top):

Nice!  Yeah, just right clicking xp11.exe and running as admin worked perfectly

@RXP JL - do you think the same admin thing may be happening here?  In all of my XP11 planes where I have a second GTN unit, it will not display.  The GTN #2 is active in the ini file and was working before (I found that I had enabled UAC to install the Carenado Mooney into MSFS via the marketplace - their store wouldn't take my payment without UAC enabled...weird) - Anyway this is what caused the initial blank GTN #1 screens.  So I'm trying to see - is there some other way I should be running the second GTN as admin?  I wouldn't know how to do that.

It looks like you still have user account access problems to the folder these files are saved to:

"C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\GTN\nonvol"

You might try to renaming the nonvol folder, for example as "nonvol.old" and let the GTN plugin recreate brand new files. You'll loose your configuration and saved waypoints but you'll be able to cross-check whether this was the problem. If solved, you can then try copying back the individual sys_nand# files into the newly created nonvol folder.

That solves the RXP issue but now I'm trying to figure out why Windows is still asking permission about modifying folders.

What folders are you referring to?

When I tried renaming files in that Program Data directory a window displayed making me think UAC was enabled.

This is normal Windows is prompting you and you shouldn't disable UAC at all.

If a vendor is recommend you do, either for installing or running, get a refund because UAC has been then since Vista and more than 10 years ago and there are ways of dealing with this programmatically. I agree it is sometimes cumbersome for the user, even more for the developer, but it is really mean to protecting your files.

If one of the reason in disabling UAC is getting access to the WindowsApps folder, there are non-disruptive ways to do so (IOBit Unlocker for example).

Well I've had it disabled since 7.  Like this I've seen more issues with it enabled but that's just my perspective
