Solving the EA clouds grid : post here your results

This thread is about trying to solve or at least trying to minimize the clouds grid in V5.1.

Everyone who wants to try to modify settings in the VolumetricClouds.cfg file ( Drive - Users - YourName - AppData - Roaming - Lockheed Martin - Prepar3Dv5 ) can post his experiences here. So we can help eachother.

Simbol will join us after the weekend and his help is very much appreciated. Perhaps other beta testers like Rob are willing to chime in too.

I am currently DL update V5.1 instead of the weekend so I will take a look at it ..

Here how it looks on my system. 
 

Sharpness at 4K. On a 43” screen it looks very pixeled and blocky on the edges. When seeing it on my 2x 4K surround setup it is very bad to look at.

Posting this again, I hope it helps:

worley_noise controls the amount of worley noise applied to the clouds - worley noise gives the billowy cauliflower shapes found in cumulus clouds.

worley_scale controls the scale of the worley noise, and decreasing it might help to make clouds more detailed. However, as it is really computationally expensive to generate worley noise real-time, they create a tiling noise texture once and use it afterwards. This means lower scales might cause more repeating cloud shapes.

persistence controls how multiple octaves of noise are mixed together to create final cloud volume. Increasing it might result in higher detail and lowering it might result in more uniform shapes.

octaves controls how many octaves of noise are mixed together to create final cloud volume. Increasing it (only use integers, not fractions) should greatly increase the detail, but it also increases the computational costs.

edge_worley_noise (probably) controls how much worley noise is applied to the edge of the clouds, increasing it will most likely result in more billowy / cauliflower cloud shapes.

Not sure about the rest - sadly there doesn't seem to be an option for increasing off-screen cloud resolution even more.

In the VolumetricClouds.cfg file you can see Sharpness.

The blocky unsharp edges on cumulonimbus and cumulus clouds look better with higher values : default is 0.9 and 1.8 looked already a little better. Using 2.7 showed a clear improvement already.

For the other cloud types I doubled the Sharpness values.

I hope they allow us to control render scaling of the clouds in next update.

Also a little less haze would be very welcome.

Tomorrow I will look into the grid issue. Maybe I am able to mask it a little...

That I did not test as use slew and the framerate is above 80...
