I think I found the root cause and provided a "workaround".

It's a long post and I won't bore you with it.

But if the cause is what I think, then the CTD will simply be a fix on how the controller profiles are read.  The system is expecting to find some button assignment xml tags and when it doesn't see them, it crashes.

The hot fix will probably be to ignore the profile if it detects the missing assignment tags.

This isn't the first time that "file integrity checks" have killed the system.  Update 1.9.5 had issues displaying content manager with certain community addons due to misconfigured manifest.json files.  Previous versions ignored the incorrectly formatted files.   Freeware devs quickly updated their manifest.json files to work around this.

I imagine this is kind of the same thing.  The system was checking the device profile pages and CTD on those not having any button assignments.   Problem is, some throttles/rudders don't have buttons, also some of us used "null" profiles for use with FSUIPC or to prevent two simultaneously plugged in devices from conflicting.

Of course it doesn't help that when you copy an existing profile and then remove all assignments, and save it, you've created the bomb that's going to blow up in your face.

Hopefully the hotfix will just ignore the errors that MSFS feels are in a profile and will simply load.

I got over 90th thanks. Have been developing for windows over 20 years VB6,C, C++, VB.net, C#, WPF and etc 🙂

Sounds very much like we've had parallel lives. (You left out Pascal!)

I remember the day I realized: why am I using C#? What is the point? I finished my career on C++. 

I just installed Visual Studio a few days ago. I'm thinking it's time to start chipping off the rust.

So I guess its time to bring out my drones. They have been complaining in recent weeks of feeling neglected! I hope they don't take it out on me.

A weekend of drone flying beats checking the forums constantly to see whether the update to the update is out!

I guess I shouldn't complain though. I've had a good run so far. After this update was the first time I ever had a CTD, and its down to a peripheral (Lazer Tartarus).

Hopefully it will all be sorted quickly.

Now let me check just once more whether that Hot Fix/update is out......... lol!!
