San Diego

Recommended Posts

Had a good look around this area. I feel almost disloyal saying this, but I've never been a big fan of the Orbx version of this airport, or more accurately, the surrounding area. Not sure why, it's just never really worked for me. These are with the LatinVFR airport and a freeware San Diego landmarks pack, and apart from a couple of the usual photogrammetry oddities, I think this is a much better setup.

This was interesting. In the shot below, there's an airport handler guy towards the bottom of the screen. While I was paused I noticed him doing what looked like Michael Jackson impersonations! So I grabbed a few shots and I'll post his routine separately. Definitely worth keeping an eye out for if you have this airport.

Been here once. Really enjoyed it, and it was part of my last great US trip - flew in to KSAN via KHOU, stayed five days, drove via Palm Springs and 29 Palms (with overnight stays) to Tuscon where we had a week. Roadrunners on the porch - magic!

Great pics and thanks for the advice on the KSAN area scenery.

Can't help but wonder if along with the roadrunners....you also saw any coyotes as well?  Maybe wearing an ACME rocket pack and roller skates? 🤣

Well, I was hopeful but no luck. That would have been a holiday snap for sure <grin>

That red-roofed Coronado Hotel in the next to the last shot is easy to spot. Please don't ever get tired of posting these gems.

Cheers John. Posting this stuff goes in bursts for me. Having a burst today though <grin>. That hotel sure is an icon, ain't it? (remember "Some Like It Hot"?) Couldn't get much of a close up shot though as there were some ugly photogrammetry artifacts on the beach that spoiled it. Looks ok from out here though.

You've thoroughly captured the spirit of the city, in your images, beautiful set...!!

[During my only one visit to the city, I had not flown into the Airport, but had taken the Amtrak from LA to San Diego downtown. The famous La Jolla beaches are probably not too far from your pictures....recall fond memories of whiling away hours there...🙂...in the evenings...]
