Nvidia RTX 3090 vs 2080 Ti vs 1070 Ti

Featured Replies

If you dont run at 4k the newer cards are not needed, imho.

I upgraded two years ago to a 42" 4k with a 2080ti, since then i cant imagine something lower,

instead 8k is coming faster and actualy cheaper then you think! 😆

ah and yes my 3090 have so much more power then the old 2080ti.

Actually I have a 4K TV but in term sof the PC, I am currently running a 32" 144hz 1440p and planning on keeping at that res for at least a year or two longer and then skipping 4K completely and going straight to 8k .

This is hilarious. I try to keep up to scratch iff i FINALLY get a setup going and this comes out (Ive used same system for quite a few years now for non-simming).

Sounds nice system their BTW. Think ill proceed with another system now anyways😊.

No value in 8k yet. I can’t think of a single scenery made in 8k???

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

I think the post is referring a while ahead like a year or so, not right now.

Just the next gen nvidias seem closer to release. Graphics look great already though imo.

But there will be in 2 years when I upgrade to 8K and the RTX4090 40GB

I hear you guys.  Personally 4k will be good enough to me for a long time.  I mean I can't even get my football games in better than 1080i right now!

Edit: TV games football I mean

Hi,

I saw someone say they were holding out on high end nvidia gpus because of next gen AMPERE series. The cards on this thread and video look really good anyways.

So that suprised me somewhat. Curious iff anyone has thoughts on this.

There were rumors of a 3080 Super/Ti variant; however, it won't be happening in the near future, likely due to GDDR6X supply. Micron Technology is currently the only manufacturer of this memory, and yields haven't been fantastic. AMD may have been wise to stick with GDDR6 as there are several manufacturers and yields are much higher. I'm not sure anybody really knows what next gen Ampere will look like. Honestly, I'm perfectly content with the performance of my 2080 Ti in Flight Simulator. I'm running 4K on the ultra preset and getting over 30 FPS pretty much everywhere I've gone, including cities like New York.

Thx for that detail, appreciate it. Good to hear you running good on your system.

I recall last version of flightsim i had was around 30 FPS and that was pretty much fine. even with lots of add-ons.

Nice to know for me (or anyone else) looking to upgrade.

I see no point to upgrade my 2080 Ti until I switch to 4 or maybe 8k, I play on a 35'' 3440x1440 monitor now and the game both run and looks fantastic, so I will probably not upgrade until the next generation of GPUs.

I use this monitor. Good piece of kit. The extra vertical pixels really helps with that aspect ratio.

I've been drooling all over that monitor for weeks now. I have it on price watch so that I get an email if the price drops. But right now its like $2000 where I live.

Yeah, its expensive. It was on offer recently in the UK with £400 off but I am not sure how long it lasted.

So I got my 3090 installed over the last few days, and I have to say, the results are great with my other games but disappointing with MSFS.

On one hand, I’m able to play all my other games at 4K 60fps on highest settings. One DX11 game from a couple years back is well over 60fps, allowing me to run res scaling at 110% and still never dip below 60fps. This is great compared to my 2080Ti that struggled to do 40-45fps on max settings at 4K. So about a 40% improvement.

Now in MSFS, with terrain visuals maxed, I’m seeing a 5-10fps improvement in non-photogrametry areas. So I went from 40-45fps in GA aircraft under these conditions with the 2080Ti to 45-55fps with the 3090. Ugh.

But if I fly around photogrametry areas, I’m not getting a single FPS extra... as I’m main thread limited. And for GA sight seeing flights, I like to hack the Terrain LOD to 4 (400) and that also gets me nothing as it shifts more load onto the already poorly optimized main thread. My 3090 is rarely getting over 70% utilization.  It’s horrible to have an ultra high-end GPU being starved. And my CPU is an i7-9700K 8-core (no HT) 4.6GHz monster.

We really need Asobo to invest in optimizing this. It’s badly flawed.

what i do if i encouner such fps drops (i prefer 60fps experience) i play (lowering) just the renderscale without compromising the visual experience.

Most of the Ultra settings are not need while flying anyway, it just eats you fps.

Some things need to stay on Ultra tho, like the Couds they look really best on Ultra.
