MSFS airliners are the worst of both worlds

Featured Replies

Besides the known bugs, the default airliners in MSFS are way more complicated than the default ones in FSX, which you could learn very quickly jump in and fly without fooling around with. But they are not nearly as detailed as "study level" planes. For me personally I would love to have an analog 737.

Uhhh I don't find the A320 with the Fly By Wire mod difficult. There's a bit of a learning curve with the managed autopilot system, but once you figure that out it's a really fun plane to fly.

The default A320 is being improved as freeware almost every week, but that said the airliners that Asobo provides are never likely to have any improvements except what some awesome people such as awesome and incredible people like FlyByWire create.  For increased fidelity or steam gauges you will very likely have to go down the road towards a payware alternative.

It's a good idea tc continue to post your wants so that those who create such software have a feel for what people are looking for.

Best wishes!

With hindsight they should probably have stuck with the "Acme" autopilot of yore, rather than trying to simulate the Airbus system and the semi implementation of LNAV/VNAV on the 747. (Don't know about the 787 as I haven't got it).

I would disagree - when it launches on Xbox then you will not be able to use mods like Flybywire so they will have to be improved.

Absolutely agree, many pc players do not think has the XBOX version, Asobo must make choices for both media.

In a future update, I think Asobo will improve the A320. If you look at the table "FEEDBACK SNAPSHOT"

Anything on Marketplace will be available to the Xbox crowd which is why MS/Asobo are adding a freeware category to the Marketplace.  They have already stated they are wanting to talk to this group, so I have every expectation that the FBW changes will be available through Marketplace for the Xbox when it finally releases.

You Tube is your friend.  Even the out of box A320 is super easy to fly, even with it's bugs.  The FBW model just adds more functionality to the FMC and the overhead panels.  And the 747 does have the same "analog" Autopilot that the 737, had so you can always fly that beast without messing with the Flight Management system.

But yes, a nice old 737 or a CRJ would be welcome

With due respect but I don't think there's any significant overlap between the Xbox population and those who notice a badly working VNAV on an A320. I can however see all versions of F's from 4 to 35 and beyond to appear on the Marketplace the moment MSFS is launched on Xbox.

I really do not want to start a war here with this query but I have to ask.

Are there really many simmers who will use the XBOX version.  I would have thought that this would most likely fall into the "Gamers" category. I would also think that some gamers will eventually gravitate into wanting to utilise more complex systems and for those, it will probably mean a considerable outlay for a suitable computer and hardware ie controllers. This in itself may daunt some.

I am really curious though, about how many hardcore simmers would actually use the XBOX.

PLEASE, note that this is not a simmers vs gamers conversation in any way ... I am simply curious. Can XBOX use controllers like Saitek for instance?  That might throw a completely different complexion on this query too,

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Regards

Tony

Or is it the best of both worlds ? A way to give you a taste of driving a modern airliner without overwhelming you with infos you don't need at first. I'd say that if they straighten out their 320, it could be a step to more complex products.

Of course it is and you know it hence your disclaimer. I am sure I am not alone to find tiresome to have good threads derailed by this overbeaten dead horse ! Gamers vs simmers and Xbox and so on and so forth, give us a break will you or start your own thread on the topic that we can avoid.

Thank you so very much for your very informative response. I actually learnt nothing from it, and I remain curious.

You are very wrong with your assumption as well.  If this is indeed a dead horse and overbeaten, it might have been a little more helpful to provide a link. I am very much aware that there has been much discussion about the simmers vs gamers topic, but my query is NOT about that at all. I simply want to know if serious simmers use XBOX.

I wonder why things get so personal so very quickly.

Tony

One more thing ...If you check my topic history you might find that I am much more likely to be moderate rather than inflammatory.

This is somewhat anecdotal, however I can confirm that at least 2 "serious simmers" that I know and who have in the past flown aircraft such as the PMDG ones will be moving to Xbox when it comes out, as they don't have enough money after Covid etc to rebuild their PC;s but will be able to afford an Xbox which they can share with their kids that want their games as well and are awaiting PMDG/A2A aircraft and similar.

They are both following the developments closely and are looking forward to it and hoping that some of the Freeware currently available will be made available through Marketplace as MS/Asobo have said in a couple of Developer Updates.

Now.. 2 is not a great number, but I truly believe that there will be some.
