Sloped runways are a lot of fun!

Featured Replies

I know this isn't new but I used to always have flat contours switched on in XPlane due to Ortho4XP.  I'm rekindling my love for a good sloped runway its so much fun on landing, for example I downloaded KAVX from Flightsim.to, just landed on 22 with a bit of a crosswind and some turbulence on short final but was surprised just how much of an incline there is at the last minute - on the charts even says Runway 22 upslope preferred landing.  Very cool!

Tried a landing at Lukla in the CTSL with a strong headwind. Just about plopped onto the runway but rolled backwards off the end... Love it 🤣

Both @cavaricooper experienced the exact same thing when we landed there for the 1st time with the excellent mod!

I even snapped a pic that... even as a pic (more more so in the sim and I can imagine in real life)... the sensation that there is a up-slope, and at the end of the runway....a drop off that you don't want to experience if you're too fast or have no brakes! Hard to describe, and left Carl and I almost speechless!

Carl even opened his door, and stepped out on the wing to take a look! 🤣  (in reality its a small model issue with the LOD on the Mooney)

EDIT: Hehe....just watched your vid.....you landed too good to see the end of the runway like I show above...still the slope effect is awesome!

Great landing and video. That upslope at the end messed with my brain a little 😁

Looks like you're enjoying this sim, and your fellow colleague too! 😉

Landed yesterday afternoon at KAVX from L35 (Big Bear) on my Bonanza Turbo, and it was not easy, I would tell you.

Ha I flew from Big Bear in the video as well.

They are not only fun, but challenging , especially with low clouds, poor visibility, or at night. Many simmers talk about the lack of airliners. They have no idea of what they are missing. This is another reason why MSFS 2020 is simply amazing!

Very true!  Does anyone have any other recommendations for airfields with sloped runways?  I’m got the itch to search them out.

You could try this one:

... and just to show it is really like that in PNG ...

Most airports in MSFS 2020 have some sort of slope. If you want bush strips like those found in ORBX AYPY or Tapini package for P3D, do a search for PNG airports.

You can also try  airports like KFLL or PAKT.

Lastly, try the MSFS landing challenges. They include sloped runways.

I tried landing the A320X at KAVX and managed to land..kind of... Went over the end and left and rolled down without falling off the cliff. 🙂

Haha 3000ft runway is inevitable unless 100kt headwind lol

Searching for Altiport or Altisurface under Airports in Flightsim.to gives you some crackers

Bush League Legends has some “slopers”too
