Two Instances of P3Dv5.1 On MY System?

Featured Replies

I have always pointed my Installation to C:\. I just checked my C:\ drive and noticed almost a mirror image of P3Dv5 in C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3Dv5. I only noticed this after Updating Client, Scenery and Content this morning for P3Dv5.1 HF1. I did not Uninstall "Prepar3D v5 Academic".  It looks like P3D was pointed to C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3Dv5, I did not do this. It should have updated C:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5. I am not sure what to do now. Should I copy the files over into the proper Directory or uninstall and reinstall the 3 components? I do not think I had a choice to point the install file to the proper directory path. This could be the reason why I cannot see my payware aircraft in the Vehicles menu. I really have no idea what I may have done wrong to create this problem.

Regards.

Tom

You should never point an installation to C:\, you should always first create a folder, such as C:\P3Dv5 and install into that. The most likely explanation for what has happened to you is that you did not reset the location when reinstalling P3D and it defaulted to what you have now.

You could use this guide to remove what you have done and replace it with what you wanted to do.

Thanks for that. I have updated client before but never the 3 components. But it is the same process for all three, Client, Content, Scenery. I think my problem is, I could have and should have gone the deactivate route. What I have done is I updated P3Dv5.1 HF1,not aware at the time that I had a P3D folder under C:\Lockheed Martin (Not my preferred location), but on browsing around my C:\ drive I noticed another P3D folder under C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin (That is a no no in the FLight sim community). When I upgraded from v4.5 to v5, with a new License, I suspect this is when the problem started.  I had no idea there was another instance of the sim on my machine. So I uninstalled the version under “Program Files” and I manually deleted the other Folder, since the uninstall process did not recognize it. I thought I could then run the full install package and it would allow me to point the installation to anywhere I wanted. I was wrong! It automatically installs to C:\Program Files\ . I think I have screwed up the registry as it pertains to P3D. I have contacted LM for assistance as well. Not sure what to do. I think I can still install to C:\ Program Files, but I naturally want the program to be outside of that directory. I would have to change some Utility addons such as AP3D, Aivlasoft etc. to point to the new sim location. But again, that is not my preferred sim install location. All of my scenery and some aircraft are installed outside the sim root directory anyway using the XML method and I have backups of all necessary addon.cfg, scenery.cfg files etc. Also, I know how to access the application keys in the registry, but I do not know which to delete, there are so many and I never took note of my keys, there are a lot of key codes listed....lol. Maybe there is an easy solution from LM.

Thanks

I am dumb , STUPID, STUPID,STUPID (as I bang my head continuously on the desk)...lol. I just realized (or forgot) that all I had to do was click on the options button and a that would allow me to set my own install location....'Nuff said.  Sorry to raise such an alarm here and thanks to all who took the time to read this.

Best Regards,

Tom
