Henrik Nielsen's Global AI Ship Traffic for MSFS

I didn't put the VisualEffectsLibs in the folder.

I dont get it, when you extract the .zip file, you end up with a single GAIST folder already containing everything. How come you could not "put" the VisualEffectsLibs in your folder? Did you manually move everything apart before adding it to the sim (via AddonLinker or directly). I wonder because I have issues with the newest version and I wonder if I am doing something extremely trivial just wrong...

I'm looking forward to seeing a full list of all the routes and ships. When I was young there were a series of Observer books for kids. (Or what were they called?) Subjects such as Birds, Trees,  Planes, Locomotives and Ships. The idea was to get out and try and spot as many of the featured items as you could and tick them off the list. I will be doing exactly the same with GAIS!😀👍

Would that be the “I Spy” series of booklets shipmate?

Ahhh! Yes! That was it. 😂 Wait! What's this? A couple of frigates sailing up the channel as I type! Hope they are ours!😀 This mod is FANTASTIC.

Does anyone have very small, barely visible wakes from the ships? The wakes I'm seeing don't look anything like the wakes in the screenshots on the download page of the mod on flightsim.to.

I can barely see any wake, just a small line appearing even when up close. I can see smoke from the ships but I expected the wake to show more white foam and be bigger as per real life like the wake caused by the amphibian aircraft in the sim. It has me wondering if I installed the mod correctly? Do I have to add some visual effect file or something?

I had deleted the old GAIST folder as indicated before installing but I didn't delete the 'Gaist US Lakes folder' as it didn't say to delete that one in the installation instructions. Should I delete it (in case this is causing the wakes to not display correctly)?

OMG!  No I don't but I remember them! But I'm going on Ebay now to get them! My old man used to get us them when on a long journey to shut us up! Happy days!😀

There were, and still are, the Observer's series of books. I have the one for British birds - I think they are still published.

One of the main things I like about this mod is the accuracy of the ship models. It's something which seems to have evaded a lot of developers in the past - such as in WW2 sub sims, where the target merchant ship is an all-aft tanker, with cargo derricks and some ISO shipping containers on the focsle. Henrik's mod gives us ships that are authentic and properly modelled.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

On my low-end gaming laptop, the wakes and the smoke are beautifully rendered. The wakes are somewhat transparent but still visible from the air. They are not just behind the ship but also appear along the side of the ship as it cuts through the water. Very nice. The smoke is also very transparent and aethereal.

Fantastic mod. I was really looking forward to this and it is better than I hoped for. So many different ships in every single flight.

Thanks to Henrik and team!!!!

For those who can't get it to work, here is  a GAIST reconnaisance video shared by V2disp3lda:

The wakes visibiltiy depend on ground wind speed - if you add a ground wind layer of 5-15 knots you will have the best visibility. Above 15 knots some of them become quite dominant.

Very cool mod, but does anyone know how to get rid of the default ships placed around certain scenery areas?  I don’t think they are AI but just static scenery objects…many around San Francisco for example.  They look out of place compared to the new ship traffic.

With the SDK you can place an exclusion rectangle around them and tick 'exclude library items' in its properties.

There's some in NY too. They do look a bit incongruous.

I an addition to this I generally lend my ships to freeware developers who want to reference them in harbor sceneries like e.g. this one from Kielfjord:https://flightsim.to/file/17211/scenery-kiel-kieler-foerde-ships

However, please always ask first and respect the routes so you don't create conflicts.
