New to the sim, how would you map Hotas Warthog

Featured Replies

Hello.

Just get my Hotas Warthog. I'm not very comfortable with the default mapping.

What do you think is necessary to have mapped? There are a lot of buttons and I would like to have the essentials to fly with airliners and propellers

Thank you for your support.

.

I have the Hotas Warthog and mapped it using the MSFS options/controllers. I do not use the Target system that TM ships with the controllers. I do not use FSUIPC (I did use that for FSX with the Warthog).

You probably need a shift key to map more than one command on each button. I  use the stick button 4 for that (the big red flipper) because it is easy to reach.

Stick has 4 hats coolie on top , castle hat right below the coolie hat, ladder hat to the left of the castle hat, and the light gray H hat down on the side of the stick. There is also a pinkie button behind the flipper.

On the Castle hat (it looks like a chess rook) I put tranlate up down right and left. And using the flipper key as a shifter, the up and down become IN and OUT. So that hat does those 6 view commands.

The ladder hat is my 'pan' hat, it pans up down right left. It does this in drone view too. So I put 2 commands on each hat position up, down, right, left, for cockpit and up down right left for drone. You do not need to use the shift key for that because drone commands only work in drone view, not in cockpit view. And of course cockpit views do not work in drone view.

I mapped the coolie hat and H hat first before I did anything else, don't have time to describe it right now (update hosed my game and will take hours to sort) but the are views too. Nothing but views on the stick.

The axis on the right of the throttle makes a great elevator tirm wheel. The flaps are marked on the throttle and that works well.

The parking brake I keep on an unhandy button way in the back because I do not want to land with parking break on. MSFS has no brakeon brakeoff commands, only cycle brake command which stinks there is no real way to verify the brake position except to look at the pedals. There is no gearup geardown command either, only cycle gear which stinks.

I use entire other controller for the auto pilot and radio which has 24 buttons in 4 row.
