At this point I couldn't care less if Kok says "The money is in MSFS". Of course the initial releases get lots of attention.

Just like the first time somebody releases some very popular airports in any sim gets lots of attention. But the interest is bound to taper off once new releases aren't those incredibly popular airports anymore because those have already been done.

Plus, I see lots of people returning to P3D. I bought 5 P3D airports this week and plan to buy more this weekend. I have uninstalled MSFS.

And let's not forget Aerosoft would probably benefit a lot from a future where MSFS (which they publish exclusively in Europe in disc form) becomes the single existing sim. I just don't think that's happening.

He has a vested interest in MSFS as a partner, LM will continue developing P3D long after MS stops and gives MSFS to the community to support.

PS i don`t see gamers when MSFS DX12 comes to XBOX X going out and spending 3-4 grand on a PC for MSFS instead of sticking with a 499 box.

Great post but why did post his email openly.  He is going to get tons of spam for no reason - we are gonna have simmers selling him some special pills for certain enlargement...why why?

An honest opinion from a guy running a business that is focussed on maximizing profits. Just like every other business.

As a business owner myself, I know exactly where he is coming from.  He has to take risk, have to pay bills.  There is such thing as risk control.  One can not do everything and cater to all, it hurts business.  Worst position any business owner has to take is letting employees go b/c company is out of money/or can't make money - that is the worst.  Most horrible feeling.

Non business people will not understand this b/c of risk taking.  I am sorry words can not describe it, you have to experience it.  Mathijs gets mad respect for his post.

I wish Aerosoft success in their own path/destiny.

On the bright side especially with the whole fraking planet is in pandemic we are having Simulation Renaissance in all levels.  Party on Dudes!!!

Even Orbx is on MSFS...not just Aerosoft.  Both parties created libraries for the sim.  See Default LOWI (uses the same stairs as the Orbx LOWI) and Default Lulka - that should explain everything.  I can't believe no one saw this.

For GA money maker is MSFS and for complex aircrafts party is on P3D.  That is what is going on.  I bought some airports from Orbx only focusing on big airports which can do jets.  No GA airports for P3D on my end...GA flights on MSFS are amazing.

I surely appreciate his post. He could just ignore everybody. So I thank him for that. But I’m still buying and buying often for v5. Fact of the matter is aerosoft published little that I’m interested. Most of the aerosoft scenery I bought are from the fsx era and don’t work perfectly in the P3d era. Even though I bought it in the last year. The a330 is just lacking in my opinion. The crj always seemed buggy or had performance issues. I actually was shocked aerosoft is bigger than orbx. I also struggle with his point that very little developers are trying to take advantage of the new v5 features. I don’t disagree with the point. I just don’t like that he ignores most msfs scenery that has been released seems like a clone of P3d scenery. I get the economics of it. But let’s call a spade a spade

My comment from Sunday still stands...

As a business, Aerosoft can choose any direction that they wish.
In response they should be aware that I won't be buying any more add-ons for MSFS anytime soon, preferring instead to expand my P3D collection.
A few people on this forum think likewise.

Unfortunately, one thing he is correct about is further top shelf scenery being released for P3D. That well is drying up quick.

What may upset some third party airport Dev`s is Asobo updating airports for free the UK is next on the list, i can see some now holding of buying airports when they may get it free i will not be buying addons for MSFS when i fly IFR in P3DV5, and i don`t see MS funding MSFS for free for ever once updated to final they will spend else ware on games that can sell in the millions.

And LM are not developing P3D for us but for themselves.

100%

I FSL Leonardo and PMDG had addons out for MSFS I'd be uninstalling P3D in a heart beat...but the time is coming and it's coming quick.

Agree with him where the frequent "updates" to P3Dv5 are concerned.  Makes it difficult for developers when the platform they make software for is changing every other month.  Lockheed needs to get its act together and release a stable version of P3Dv5.

As for the MSFS vs P3D issue, my take is that P3D users will be around for a lot longer than many realize.  There are still a surprising number of folks using FS2004!  There will be a market for P3D users for years to come, and developers would be missing out on an opportunity to make some money if they forgo P3D and develop exclusively for MSFS.

ORBX realizes this and has decided to develop openLC Asia.  I guarantee that they will sell thousands of copies.

I hope he understands that following the numbers and following the demographics are not the same thing. I would love to see the demographics for MSFS vs P3D. I am buying plenty for P3D. The only thing stopping me from buying more is he's right about the dearth of add-ons. My point about demographics is 100 MSFS users may weigh less than one P3D user. That one P3D user may not be splitting his disposable income among MSFS and the latest Call of Duty, and may be older and have more disposable income. And, if MK picked the wrong horse to back, I'm not going to forget the devs who stuck with the P3D base. Hell, I can be as vindictive with the worst.

Having said that, in the long run, he's probably right. I think flight simulation as Boomers think of it will go the way of model trains. It's nobody's fault. P3D reminds me of Frankenfurter's response to Columbia's "He's okay," upon seeing Rocky. "I didn't make him for YOU!" We're lucky we have it at all. And if it is anybody's fault, no one is making us all update to the latest version. 5.1 is fast and stable. Right now we have two "study level sims" and some intermediate airliners that are still fun. And plenty of scenery. But I've learned I still have to "get under the hood" more than I care to at my advanced age with P3D. MSFS is pretty hands-off for ordinary users. What kind of irritates me about MSFS is they have shown zero interest in bringing the old FSX base on board. How hard would it be to have a "classic" joystick setup to easily replace that monstrosity I face whenever I start up MSFS?
