Ignore a member

Is there a function to ignore the posts and private messages of a users?

Fortunately, there is indeed. Hover your mouse cursor over the forum name of the person who you want to ignore and in the box that appears, you will see "Ignore User". Click on that and you will no longer see their posts. While you are in that window, you can choose what to ignore, including messages.
