Are your NY bridges like this too?

Recommended Posts

Are your bridges near NY like this? I mean: they are all on the discover the world update flightplan, I don't believe they let them like this, it must be something wrong.

(and how do you upload images here, I managed to get it working just once!)

The screenshots are not very clear but under the bridges it's a solid dark block, and the upper part it's either a messy photograph texture or some other dark grey block.

This sums it up.

Solid Bridge Explanation

You would think that Asobo would have at least addressed the bridges along the "showcase" route before its release.

It would be an interesting programming challenge.

Initially it would be tempting to have any object over a "river" on the map to be a several metre thick layer that is hollow beneath rather than a solid object and have that rendered layer support Ai vehicle traffic.

Problem then is you will get all these crazy floating structures crossing large sections of river with no pylons or support underneath to hold them up,

it also would fail for high level bridges that do not cross water.

I am sure there are ways around it but the solution is not immediately obvious.

What I wonder is that there are so little complaints about the totally wrong reflections of bridges, even if they have a nice 3D model without solid structure. See above screenshot from HiFlyer, the reflection of the red bridge reaches till the structure while in reality, at least half of the reflection should not be there. This looks completely wrong...

This isn't unique to this area of the country. All the bridges created by photogrammetry suffer the same problem. Perhaps an algorithm off some sort can be developed to "hollow out" the area under the bridges. Hand crafted bridges seem to be ok. Take a look at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and you'll notice the bridge looks great however, the cars are driving on the water under the bridge instead of on the bridge. When you consider the complexity of creating the entire world from computer data, I think some of these early scenery problems are forgivable and will eventually be corrected as technology improves. For now, let's get the flying problems fixed.

Except you might end up with floating arches with no visible pylons or other support like something out of the Jetsons.  Finding an AI solution rather than doing it manually is not intuitive.
