CRJ!

Recommended Posts

I'm sure it will be a popular addon, but as someone who is current on the actual plane and flying it for a living, don't expect it to be all that realistic. The P3D version is pretty poor, even with expectations set for the price level. And it took years and years to get from absolute trash to its current level... I'd wait for the reviews, as it is the same dev once again. I'd be happy if he finally got it right, but my confidence in this particular dev is quite low.

Sound like Hartman skin is very thin for being in this business for that long. If I was Asobo I'd rather partner with A2A

This is very common in flight simming. Don't know how it is with P3D, but it turns me off a lot in XP. Even the community chimes in on this.

I've seen things like people asking why a paid addon considered "study level" does not feature a custom FMC. The answers of the community was like "do you want to fly a plane or program an FMC?". 😄

This is how I look at this and I operate with a high level of integrity and I expect a lot from myself even when their is resistance.

V1 of this CRJ came with a price tag of $50 US (give and take a few dollars.) Then v2 came at an upgrade price of $30. Now what they want to do is nickel and dime their customer for another $50. That's $130. That's the price for a PMDG airliner. What's a better value? You decide!

Now you can argue that their are all new versions. Are they really new versions or just upgrades?

I didn't buy any of the previous version and considering the state of the default aircraft, this is an easy one for me. 😄

Just maybe, Aerosoft has helped Asobo to fix their AP code. We can but hope.i

I don't know but there are different things we have to clarify here about the autopilot confusion, so what Aerosoft CRJ has , an autopilot as WASM modules aka C++, mostly is the same as P3D only difference one runs in native dll outside the sim and the other runs as WASM container inside the sim.

The garbage autopilot from Asobo is mostly javascript (if not mistaken) system interaction which allowed many folks to modded it.

It's a completely new version. From the ground up. They have stated this and even if they hadn't you can tell it is when you look at the screenshots. Obviously the underlying stuff has to be new too, because it is utilising a completely different sim's mechanics.

For what it's worth: I paid for the PMDG NGX exactly thee times: first the FSX-, than the P3D-version and last but not least for the NGXu. And guess what: I did it voluntary, as I did for the Aerosoft Airbus AND the FSL A320 and a few other addons- because I wanted to. No one coerced or forced me to buy any addon, as far as I remember. I didn't buy the CRJ before because I'm not very interested in the airplane itself and I wouldn't think about buying it, had I not a flight simulator with shortcomings in the simulation compartment. And Aerosoft are the first to offer something I personally think will overcome this deficit to a certain degree. Do I expect it to be perfect? No! But I expect it to be the most complete airliner simulation for quite some time, and 50 Euros is a price I am willing to pay for that (provided the first reviews after launch won't be too bad). That's just me, but we all have the freedom of choice - anyone to his liking!

Well, yes and no. Most CRJs don't have an autothrottle, but an aftermarket one can be fitted, since there was such a system developed for the Challenger 601 the CRJ is a derivative of, however, it isn't as much of an issue as one might imagine. The CRJ is usually flown on short hops, and that means there is a fairly small amount of time in cruise where an autothrottle really is useful, on climbs and descents, it is entirely possible to set a decent setting with the FADEC anyway. Beyond this, not having an autothrottle means less maintenance, less expense and less requirement for training. All of the above is why lots of regionals such as the CRJ don't have an autothrottle as standard.

The non-FADEC CRJ-200 can be fitted with aftermarket autothrottles, the FADEC 700/900 cannot. But, in climb, the power management is pretty simple - there is a fixed climb power gate and the FADEC will keep power at optimum thrust for conditions. Climbs are usually done in Speed mode, though V/S can be used with proper precautions to avoid getting to slow at higher altitudes.

A developer can choose to 'dumb down' an aircraft and not use all the features of the SDK.
Creating a 'smarter' and more complex airliner than the SDK allows is harder and requires lots more extra work. So why not build the platform correctly at the start?

Actually, the advanced, highly regarded airliners in FSX/P3D like PMDG, FSL, Leonardo etc. go completely outside of the SDK for those platforms  for most of their functionality. The SDK does not provide features that would permit realistic FMS and systems emulation.

Unlike this unique opportunity to mould and shape it, developers previously went outside the SDK because there was no path to change it to meet their needs.

Give them an SDK that contains the functionality to replicate airliner systems and developers (especially new ones to the scene) will choose that option. After all, natively coded functions should perform better and be easier to implement than hacking the code or designing entirely outside the sim engine. In turn, that makes development faster and ultimately cheaper.

Actually the sim mechanics are very very similar than the previous ones. The 3d model will be all new (even if they could take their old one as a base) but the rest will try to reuse as much of the old cfgs and codes. Thats what i would do anyway

I have to say it looks great. Shame I hate AS, well more the Mods(not all, ) than anything. Yes Alan, I have very good reason to.

I said I would never buy anything from them again, ...the saying is never say never...we will see. But if I do a support post and get what I did last time I might even take a trip to tell them face to face what I think of them and it would not be pretty. The thought of giving them 1 penny does not sit well at all. But the CRJ would be very nice if it works!

Pics do look good. Is that thing on the left side modeled? 😀

I know that the 787 has one, but the one on the Longitude was left out.

I'm going to try to remain calm and say to myself, NO!
