This is why I can't go back to P3D

Recommended Posts

Here's a screenshot comparison of vanilla MSFS with FBWA320NX to P3D v5 with FSlabs A320, Flightbeam's KSFO, ActiveSky P3D, Orbx Global, Orbx Trees HD, Orbx Buildings HD, OrbX True Earth Northern California. I tried to capture the plane at the same position as close as I can.

It's really difficult to think going back to P3D due to the excellent graphic capabilities of MSFS. Regretfully, the latest MSFS update introduced performance issues (lower FPS at airports and stuttering not existing before) that affected an otherwise fluid simulator, and now I'm pretty sure I'll not uninstall my P3Dv4.5 just in case.

MFS2020 is only beautiful for these scenery! P3D is great for hardcore sim.

Guys, these things are and will always be subjective. I cannot go back to MSFS no matter how may times I try, I always return to P3D. MSFS aircraft are very inferior compared to P3D. Regarding visuals the latest P3D with ASP3D looks amazing to me. These are some screens from my last two flights with the FSL airbus:

Even though this thread is turning into a compare thread....  it's true, P3D v5 does look pretty good with the right addons.  It's still not nearly as visually appealing as MSFS, but you've got medium-decent visuals with great addons/systems/avionics.  Vs MSFS with incredible visuals, and low-medium quality addons/systems/avionics (save for a very few excellent addons like WorkingTitle and Rob's Bonanza mod).

But like @kiwikat said in another thread....  we're in a weird position with MSFS.  It's tough to go back because of what we see in MSFS, but it's tough to go forward with MSFS (literally because of the bugs/crashes).

I never purchased P3D v5 but happily enjoyed v2-v4 and various addons.  I also use (mostly used) XP11.  I very occasionally have gone back to XP11 especially for my RXP GTN/GNS fix, but for smooth, stutter free performance and relatively nice scenery addons.

I'm in the flightsim doldrums these days.

Prepar3D could look so much better if they changed this dark, desaturated look during daytime, which has been this way since v2. It's a shame really.

v5 seems to have improved the matter somewhat, but then they've opened a whole new can of worms with Enhanced Atmospherics.

P3D clouds even with top payware cloud addons look way worse than modded Minecraft and Playstation 2. For example this is how you could get superb clouds using a simple and free resource pack: https://resourcepack.net/above-the-clouds-resource-pack/

And here's playstation 2 clouds which look several times more appealing than anything I've ever seen in P3D or X-plane 11:

Oh boy.
Let's discuss those MSFS volcanic clouds...

Or maybe how on a CATIII landing, my P3D Aerosoft Airbus didn't bury the nosewheel into the ground with 30 feet to go like this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftFlightSim/comments/jn6he4/trying_to_auto_land_the_airbus/?ref_source=embed&ref=share

Or on a subsequent manual landing the Aerosoft Airbus didn't swing violently to the left when I cut the power during the flare.

Rather than another s- post versus the other sims, how about some recognition that they each have their own strengths?

- VFR in MSFS is miles ahead of XP or P3D
- XP has the best aircraft handling
- P3D has the best 3PD aircraft

The thing that made me happy this evening was hearing about the FBWsim team getting more involved in the flight logic of the MSFS Airbus. The hobby needs a freeware airliner equally good as, if not better, than the XP Zibo 737.

Thanks for the comparison shots, it’s nice to see what each sim is capable of.  Both have their pros and cons...I’m currently happily flying in the FSLabs A320 in P3D5.1 and tomorrow I will likely be happily flying some GA around in MSFS.  Though I also haven’t tried the FPW A320 in a while so maybe that will be my next flight.

Even American Truck Simulator has better clouds than P3D and X-Plane.

In organized basketball there is an old adage about questionable officiating calls one way followed by a favorable bounce the other way.  It's referred to as "the ball don't lie".

The airplane don't lie.
