EA Clouds at Night - “Rolling Darkness”?

Featured Replies

Hello, I tried using EA for a night flight yesterday and experienced a strange thing that I can only describe as “rolling darkness”. Basically the clouds would look normal, then morph into darker clouds, then back to normal and repeat.  I was flying above the clouds when this happened with a bright moon.

Is this a known issue and more importantly is there a fix?  This was my first time dabbling in EA in months.  I turned off EA and completed my flight.

I’m on V5.1 with latest hotfix and using Active Sky latest version.

I saw this as well on a flight yesterday.....it happened as I was descending and did look a bit odd.  Seems to be another one of the quirks with EA.  EA is looking pretty good with the latest HiFi update but flying at dusk/dawn can give some strange effects at times....

Yes thats Truesky. Updating cloudshaders as the sun goes down and the angle of the light, shining at the clouds, changes. Combined with smaller cloudshape changes, it looks like "rolling darkness" as you called it.

Very odd indeed. Post at LM! They should be aware of this. I posted it at HiFi and asked Damian to parse it to LM.

Thanks everyone, I didn’t take a video but I will if I see it again.  This was after dusk and firmly in darkness but I wonder if the bright moonlight was playing a role?

Well. That does not solve the effect. it is not an issue, at works as it is designed now and LM have to make changes within truesky to make this appear different/better compared to it´s current status

This is a known "issue" influenced by our smoothing but mainly the way EA depiction and internal transitions are right now.  It is influenced by certain cloud scenes/coverages, camera angles, and time of day/lighting.  We are working on improving things on our end regarding this (and many other things of course), and LM seems to be rapidly improving EA as well, so this should get much better very soon.

That sounds very promising. I am very glad to hear and would also like to offer time to test. Marcus
