December 15, 20205 yr While the mile across silent UFO flying over Phoenix is certainly an unexplained event I would say that simple lights in the sky can be explained by flares dropped from the A-10 training base at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson and the F-16 training base at Luke AFB in Phoenix. Luke AFB is the largest Air Force training base in the country and trains F-16 pilots from allied air forces as well as US Air Force trainees. They routinely expel flares designed to protect them from heat seeking missiles. Noel Edited December 15, 20205 yr by birdguy The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. In fact there was a great documentary on the Phoenix Lights, were they superimposed a daylight image of the mountains onto the string of lights. You could see the lights dropping down and then despairing as they dropped below the mountains. And beyond the mountains was the military training area. So yes, I'm 99% certain it was indeed flares. However... what a multitude of witnesses report is a huge triangular shaped craft with lights underneath, passing directly over their houses. It's not one or two that claim this, there are a plethora of reports. All reporting the same phenomenon. In fact, a while back I was being quite negative regarding the incident on social media. Until someone responded with exactly this phenomenon to report. He said he witnessed a huge triangular craft fly directly over his house. It blocked out the stars, so he knew it was a solid craft and not just three lights, so three aircraft in formation. Now of course he could be lying but he seemed intelligent, eloquent and not the sort of person on social media to be winding people up.
December 15, 20205 yr I agree that the "string of lights" seen in Phoenix were almost certainly flares. However, those reports of a huge, silent triangular craft are very interesting, because objects of that size and shape have been seen many times by apparently credible witnesses. Too many for the reports to be dismissed outright. December 15, 20205 yr Yep. Sure have been reported lots. The Belgium UFO wave was black triangles. Even intercepted by F16's. If genuine, one wonders if top secret tech, like Aurora or other worldly.
December 15, 20205 yr Some of us here who have served in the military and have some degree of security clearances might actually have seen or know something about these UFOs but are not allowed to discuss or even acknowledge such events. Someday the classifications might be lifted, but probably not in my lifetime. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

Is it that you can't acknowledge such events due to the classification level or is there some else? I know there are a lot of things I'll never see cleared in my lifetime also but I have no clue about UFO events. Yes, anything you may have seen or worked on cannot be disclosed because they ae branded secret or top secret or something else. There are many levels of classification. The entire time I was in the Air Force I held a Top Secret clearance. In the National Guard I also held a NATO Clearance. I was assigned to a small site in Wyoming while I was in the Air Force. What we did was classified Top Secret. A few years after I got out of the Air Force my wife and I were driving through Wyoming and stopped for breakfast in Encampment After breakfast we went into the little museum and there in one corner were devices and instruments and an entire history of what the Air Force site in Encampment did. I was at the sister site in Douglas and had travelled to the Encampment and Pinedale sites from time to time. The sites were later closed. The entire operation of what we did was there in the Encampment museum so I suppose it wasn't classified anymore and I was finally able to tell my wife, "This is what we did in Douglas." There were seismic sites monitoring underground nuclear tests from anywhere in the world. I worked on the instruments and the seismic array and analyzed the seismograms and reported the findings to the headquarters in Washington twice a day. That included all the earthquakes we recorded around the world during our shift. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
December 15, 20205 yr Thanks Noel. I understand. There are a couple of things that I saw/did that I've also been able to since talk about with my wife and sons. But not much. Since I was never privy to any of the "UFO voodoo" I didn't know if it fell into the same category as most of the other classified things we dealt with. The only problems with the flare theory is that Luke and Davis-Monthan said that they didn’t have any aircraft or training going on in that area/time if I recall right. I don’t know how long flares are supposed to stay suspended in the air or stationary, but they seemed to have held their position for a very long time. Then governor Fife Symington some time later also can forward and said that he couldn’t explain it and also saw the blockage of stars from the craft, so there’s that as well. I lived in Tucson at the time and unfortunately never got to see it but I saw a superimposed graft on the news of the trajectory from the Phoenix area south to the NW side of Tucson that had garnered reports. December 16, 20205 yr It depends on the type of flare. The flares used to confused heat seeking missiles I believe are rather short lived. I never worked with those types of flares. Ground illumination flares stay suspended in the air for quite a while. They are dropped by aircraft or fired from mortars or artillery rounds to illuminate enemy positions at night. Also, Luke and DM are not the only units that use the range. So do Air National Guard units from Tucson and the Marines and Navy units training at Yuma. So do other units from other bases flying out of DM, Luke and Yuma as well as NATO units lying out of those bases. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. He did not exactly help matters when he organised that press conference where his chief of staff dressed up in an alien costume. Granted he later claimed that he had seen one of these craft himself, but we all know how much damage it will have done.
