Moving Market Place Airports into Community Folder ?

Featured Replies

I recently purchased LatinVFR's LEBL from the market place and noticed that the installation had placed it into "OneStore" folder rather than the Community Folder, where I would prefer it to be, so I moved it there.

However, I'm guessing that there's more to this than a simple move as I then noticed a very regular, but significant  momentary dip in FPS once every approx two seconds and Content Manager then showed LEBL as not installed. Moving it back to "OneStore" reverted things back to normal again.

I'm thinking that perhaps I could make a copy of the installation folder, delete said installation within Content Manager, then move the copied installation folder back into the Community Folder.

I'm just wondering if anyone has done this yet ?

Many thanks

Why would you want to do that?. All installations from the Marketplace place the files under a different directory than the Community Folder, and that won't give you any trouble.

Correct, MS marketplace purchases do not go into the community folder.

Because being in the Community Folder allows me, like all other addons, to selectively enable / disable them easily using a utility like MSFS Addon Linker. Therefore, the sim only loads those utilities / airports that I intend to use during the session.

Thats true If I fly into Chicago and I dont want to land at Ohare I cannot disable the marketplace Ohare addon scenery thus adding to the gpu load for that area.

The Maker of Addon Linker is aware of this he is just not sure if there are enough of a reason to create a linker to Offical folders

That's only one of the several reasons I refrain from buying in the Marketplace.

At first I very much liked the idea of the Marketplace, where I could centralize my purchases and more easily track updates, but as we have gone along I see a growing number of reasons to try to purchase elsewhere if possible. It is too bad really because it has the kernel of a helpful approach.

I've done that. I moved everything; Store payware and Asobo and Microsoft default airports from the OneStore folder to my addons folder and linked back in the airports I was going to fly from/to. It was like 45 aiports I moved. Because I did this to have the sim load faster and I didn't notice a difference, I reverted all back to the way it was. But it worked.

I learned the hard way.  I never buy airports from the Marketplace.  The files are encrypted and cannot be read by MakeRunways (by Pete and John Dawson)..  MakeRuways cannot see the .bgl and will use the default MSFS airport information.  This causes issues with programs like PF3ATC because your gate information will not be correct.   Just a thought....

I just tried this, but maybe I did it incorrectly. After copying the four Asobo Canadian airports into my add-ons folder as a test, I linked to one of them in Add-Ons Linker. When I fired up the sim, it forced me to download the airport I had linked in Linker. When you said you "linked back in the airports", did you create your own shortcut in the OneStore folder?

/ sorry / ignore see next post (did not notice this was an old thread)

@garydpoole with addons linker you can create links to the official/onestore folder if you want. There are some instructions here (read that post and a few more below) -> https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/586454-another-tool-to-organize-your-msfs-addons-easily/?do=findComment&comment=4445883

But then yes, if the link is not active and if you go into the 'content manager', this is normal because the content manager will not see the files anymore. So it's perfectly normal and not an issue at all as long as you understand why it does that. For example, if you need to update an addon, you would have to make sure it's activated before launching the sim and going into the content manager.

If you want to try this, please try with a single addon to make sure it's ok before moving too much stuff, this option was designed for advanced user that are confident with the tool. Note that performance should not be impacted by anything you do when moving those folder unless you move the data to a slower disk.

@Denwagg not sure what problem you have when you say that if you do that you have to redownload, you were one of the first to test that and it was ok back then i think. But then maybe this happens if you try to move asobo contents, in that case probable the sim checks those and will ask you to redownload them if they are not preset because they are part of the 'sim package' (marketplace addon are not and should not cause that problem).

--

To disable 'sim content' what i do is use the xml editor and set the active flag to false, the sim should not use them anymore and you don't need to move them at all (like said above in my comment to Denwagg i wouldn't recommend move 'standard sim content')

hopefully not too confusing and even more important 'not too wrong' 😱 😛

Yes, Onestore (Official) stuff has to be linked back to the Onestore folder. This needs to be specified in Addon Linker's Menu -> Tools -> Options -> Advanced. Two folder paths (Onestore and your custom folder) needs to be inserted there. Then it will work. I have it for over a year now with my Marketplace scenery's and everything is kept up-to-date by the install manager.
