This looks interesting - Enhanced Airports MSFS

Featured Replies

Very interesting but man....why is their official webpage so crappy looking.  Looks like it is from the 90s using frontpage etc.

It would be nice if they spend some time updating website - simple wordpress (free) would do it.

Either way the product looks very interesting, I would like someone to try to get that addon and show us a video.

And Happy New Year everyone.

You can add these yourself in a minute with the scenery editor.

Sometimes it is worth messing about with the scenery editor and can even be a bit of fun - but not always.

Example - Brisbane International has a curved terminal building with similarly curved bus shelters and covered walkways in front. The default sim just has a flat bit of pavement with weird patterns etched in and looks pretty bad. Fixing that by hand would be major job.

Another good example is SVSO in Venezuala. I picked it up on special with the marketplace xmas deal because it was reduced to an exceptionally low price and the mountains in that part of South America are pretty stunning to fly through.  The terminal and control tower areas are just blobs in the default scenery and replacing all those buildings yourself would be a major effort and not worth it unless you flew out of there regularly.

To be honest a package that improves a large number of airfields at once can be tempting.

looks like a good deal if it enhances all airports as stated.  My only concern would be conflicts with existing freeware airports (of which many already have upgraded textures) and when Asobo update the sim.

Yeah, there should be a tool in order to assign priorities to the community folder add-ons, like in P3D.

7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber

Righto then.  The textures are definitely better all round, with less colour saturation for the lines, so more natural looking surfaces.  I never noticed any performance impact, and my PC is on the edge at 30fps, so I would have seen some stuttering if they affect performance I think.

It is just surfaces and surface markings, no buildings.  Zinertek normally do a separate pack for buildings (as they did with FSX), but I think it would be of less use in MSFS due to the amount of people creating buildings and new textures anyway.  Plus the default ones are fairly good anyway, with no flashing hangar doors like there were in FSX!

The runway textures for the different types are also better, and apparently, the tyre marks are an overlay, so if MS / Asobo add more tyre marks to airports in the future, they will sit on top of the Zinertek textures.

I thought there was a problem to start with, as some lines and runway stopping points had jaggies, but I removed the new textures from the community folder and went back to default.  The default lines have jaggies in the same places, but the problem is with the Zinertek ones, they are yellow on black rather than yellow on the typically grey surface for default, so the jaggies look slightly worse with the yellow against the black surround.  Unfortunate, but not much can be done about that I don't think.

I tried Kerama in Japan, (to look at the pretty new water masks there), and that was fine (this is an Asobo default enhanced airport).  I tried Zell-am-See in Austria, a third party airport (Gaya) - all good, and finally a freeware airport just 20 minutes from Zell-am-see, Sankt Johann (LOIJ) by Sergio Del Rosso.

Unfortunately Sankt Johann didn't look too good, as there was some kind of bleed through going on.  The runway was very patchy, like two sets of textures were battling it out, or one was bleeding through the other.  Once again, I removed the zinertek textures and tried it again, and the airport was fine again, so there is a little problem there.  I will email them and let them know - early days, and hopefully it is something they can fix.

Now if someone could just do something about those shimmering wire fences!

There is, you just use alphabetical order.

If you want something to load after something else (so it takes priority), just put a 'Z' or something in front of the folder name to sort it to the bottom.  I have to do this with a few mods in the community folder to get the loading order right.

PS.  Hey!  You might have just solved the issue with the freeware airport I mentioned (Sankt Johann by Sergio).  The new runway textures are in two folders starting with 'E' for enhanced.  The airport folder starts with 'S' for Sergio - they need to be the other way around.

I will put a 'Z' in front of the airport texture folders so they load afterwards and take precedence.  Zinertek may not have thought of this.  They would override anything in the official folder of course already. 👍

We need a free version of this, like Airport Environment HD for X-Plane 11 by MisterX. Hope that comes eventually.

Hope runs eternal

That's the problem, you never know when a freeware will arrive.

As for this addon, this is a great start, however like @Manny said, it would be worth it if it brings some randomization with the textures.

I should imagine that's mostly an issue with anisotropic filtering settings.

Is good to see third party developers releasing stuff to MSFS. However, I honestly question if it is really worth this price. Especially now in simmarket, I see a lot of add-ons that just add some lighting using scenery editor and sell these with some ridiculous prices. The same goes for this texture pack, pretty sure you will find something similar soon in flightsim.to, e.g: https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/35172-airport-environment-hd/ for x plane.

Also honestly folks, we should really watch out habits of buying unnecessary add-ons that we inherited from P3D/FSX. Just sayin' 😅

I just can't get rid of it Alan. (Not a Zinertek problem of course).

I have tried mine at AF x16 in sim, with super sampling also at x8, and even transparency super sampling set at x8 in Nvidia control panel - nothing gets rid of it and the wire fences look terrible.
I have TAA on of course, and running 4k at 70% scaling (100% scaling does no better though).

The fences around the Kerama perimeter were particularly bad when I tried that airport last night, but everything else is looking absolutely superb.  I had a similar problem with P3D and FSX with wire fences.  Does nobody else have the problem?

Yes they are..but

if its going to be repetitive..then there is no value add! Is there an add on that makes each runway unique?  If they can't do it, then go away! LOL 🙂

If you can take the runway texture from Google or MS or some other aerial photo and overlay it on each runway, then I'll get it. Replacing the Asosbo default 10-50 runways textures with your own 10-50 runway textures do not add any value. It is still repetitive and I hate reparative runway texture.

Right with ya there!

Probably a moire pattern issue then, with one resolution clashing with another. You can test that theory by changing your resolution, to see if it goes away. If a resolution change makes it go away, it's a moire pattern.
