CTD with Radeon 5700 XT, becoming more frequent

Featured Replies

Are the more recent AMD drivers less stable in MSFS?

The last couple of updates seem to be for me, especially on long flights 4/5 hours or more). My GPU is regularly running at 100% according to Xbox Game Bar, not a problem in itself until recently. But I now get CTDs with a 'driver timeout'. I'm wondering now if I should roll back 2 or 3 driver releases to see if that fixes things. Has anyone had similar problems with the AMD Adrenaline drivers lately? And what is your solution, if any? Buying a different GPU is not an option!

What? So AMD Radeon cards cause more CTD in MSFS? Can other AMD Radeon owners chime in on this?

I don't know about Radeons causing more crashes, it just my experience that it's become more common with the past couple of Adrenaline updates. Whether that's a direct link or co-incidence would depend on the experience of others.

(I haven't found a link to the Community Folder being full or empty by the way.)

I am using the AMD RX590 with driver 20.12.1 and have not had any isuues.

John

I have the Power Colour RX 5700 XT, and its been a nightmare for CTD's since MSFS launched, Driver timeouts were a favourite at first, then just inexplicable CTD's in external view. But after alot of messing about i rolled back my drivers to version 20.8.03 and carried out the advice from HERE And i was down to maybe one or two every few days.

Yesterday i finally updated to the latest versions and touch wood, it's been fine, with over 6hrs flight time and no issue.

I am running the late Sept driver. Anything past I get a CTD no matter what. I want to switch to NVIDIA. No crashes in any other games.

Same here, supposedly the driver issues had been sorted months before i purchased the card... never again, no support despite numerous crash reports filed. Back to Nvidia for me.

Same here, MSI RX5700XT, but only in the Reverb G2 VR. In 1080p flat screen no problems, Previously in the Rift I didn't have problems either while GPU load was also maxed. Except a restore of Windows I tried about everything, so I'm now going to do that.

Far from an isolated case then.😕       Just had my second CTD of the day. almost 90 minutes into a 5 1/2 hour flight.🤬

Interesting. I have always had a habit of keeping old downloads, even to the point where they're likely obsolete, so thankfully I have those drivers still. I'll uninstall, use the AMD DisplayDriverUninstaller and re-install 20.8.3. I don't tweak my GPU settings anyway as a rule so I doubt I'll miss the features of newer drivers.

Likewise and that increases the frustration, knowing the sim is a big part of the problem.

I'd been a life-long AMD CPU fan but primarily used Nvidia GPUs until now. Looks likely I'll switch back in future. Shame.

Not looking good. Don't want to have to deal with those type of issues. Fingers crossed it doesn't affect 6800xt cards. If it does it looks like i will be holding on to the 6800xt just till the 3080ti comes out.

5700XT here.  I had a few CTDs near launch, a couple related to the VFR map when that was a bug, and one probably related to SimConnect issues, but I've also done over 10 3-4 hour flight with no issues, and about 200 flight hours so far.

I got the 'device disconnect' driver error once recently, but just once.

My 5700XT has always been very stable.  It seems like the experience varies for different people.  Different AMD driver versions might matter as well.  I have my card on a custom water loop so it is runny really cool (50-60C) compared to some of the air cooled cards.

Keep in mind i have also found certain liveries (especially the mega packs for me have caused ctd's) some free ware Addons, and there has even been issues with payware addons conflicting with each other....

Best addoon to get is the addon linker so as you can also seperate all your addons if needed to aid finding the culprit.

You can always DL old drivers, AMD makes them available on their site... So i just worked backwards until this one. I have not had many CTDs with the older driver, other than sometimes when starting the sim it just CTDs. If it aint broke, don't update I guess.

An occasional CTD with my 5700 XT and the latest driver. I have reported the CTDs to Zendesk and they asked for additional details and seem to be looking at the issue.
