Alaska: Chugach Glaciers, Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula

Alaska: Chugach Glaciers, Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula

Route:

This trip is an exploration trip departing from Whittier Alaska via some of Alaska’s rugged and scenic glaciers, rivers and lakes which surround the Chugach National Park and are found in the Kenai Peninsula. We will eventually arrive at our destination of Seward Alaska.  This is intended to be a low level flight excursion.

Whittier, Alaska

During this trip we’ll also visit Alaska’s largest city and airport, Anchorage, and then head south to a few very scenic sites on the Kenai Peninsula.

In this trip, time permitting, we will make 11 scheduled stops and perhaps also a few non-scheduled ones ending this journey at Seward, Alaska. (To adequately cover this area may require a part-2)

Seward, Alaska

Short List (Airports): PAWR-AK66-AK1-PAAQ-AK50-PABV-PANC-AK12-5HO-AQY-JLA-PAWD.

Although this is scheduled as a MSFS flight, this route is also fully compatible with FSX/P3D).

Multi way pointed flight plans, detailed itinerary and pilot’s guide are available here.

Scenery Requirements:

MSFS: NOTE:  Add-on scenery requirement for Seward Airport (PAWD) (inadvertently omitted from default MSFS) (A must have).  DL LINK:  https://flightsim.to/file/3765/pawd-seward-airport

FSX/P3Dv1-v5: Best to use the RTMM Master File (FSX/P3Dv1-2-3), or complete RTMM add-on for P3Dv4 or the version for P3Dv5. All versions contains all of the airport locations as well as all of the POI).
(If using RTMM single pieces, all of the RTMM Libs are required plus add-on scenery pieces: The Western Chugach-Part 1, TWC–Part 2 and Prince William Sound. RTMM scenery page:  https://return.mistymoorings.com/scenery/

Aircraft:

This trip is 256 nm of mostly a secluded and off the beaten path route via natural landmarks: glaciers, mountains, lakes and rivers as well as following for manmade landmarks such as highways and lakes and river valleys so fire up your favorite STOL: in MSFS a super modified xCub or Savage Carbon or Grrrravel.

In FSX/P3D: perhaps a Maule M7, Super Cub, C185, DHC2 Beaver, DHC3 Otter, Zenith STOL type aircraft etc. (Minimum 120-130 KTAS).

Note: As always, use your aircraft of choice but please be advised that a STOL type aircraft or alternate that has climb power is necessary to be able to successfully run the glacier portion of this excursion.

Time and Weather:

Weather: Live if possible but Alaska weather is not exactly predicable so if live is not operationally possible, we can utilize the Few clouds preset (add 16cm snow).

Sim Start Time:  @1400 Local. (Dusk at end of flight)

Multiplayer Particulars:

Date and time: Wednesday, February 3, 2021. 1900 UTC
Where: AVSIM RTWR Teamspeak - Casual Flights Channel
Teamspeak Server Address: ts.teamavsim.com
Multiplayer: Microsoft Flight Simulator MP. USA East server.
Cross-Platform Multiplayer: JoinFS. Latest version is here. (FSX, FSX-SE, and P3D and MSFS2020)

A quick suggestion. MFS pilots may want to install Alaska water height fix Anchorage and Southern National Parks v1.2 by Baddweapon. This effort removes a huge bunch of truly annoying anomalies. (Note that Asobo has another update on February 02, so one does not know if this fix will be necessary or effective tomorrow.) Hope this helps.

Yup tried with and without the mod in the MSFS current version and it didn't make any difference to the one anomaly that I did see in this route- so sure doesn't hurt to add it.  Thanks Mike.

Then there is the official update, whenever it might get sent forth. That will spawn another test of the water levels with and without the water fix mod.

Norm

Norm, this looks to be a wonderful trip. Maybe better in P3D with Misty Moorings. Though it is interesting to see how well Asobo have done.

Got Gravel Liveries

For those who like a variety of liveries, here are three packages of interest for "Got Gravel" MFS pilots flying either the Savage Carbon or Savage Grravel versions.

The first is a 7-paint package by USAFNukem. This has a good variety including USFS, Alaska State Troopers, Freedom Fox, and the 2016-2019 Alaska Airmen's Raffle planes. He has two versions: the USAFNukem Savage Carbon Livery Pack and USAFNukem Savage Grravel Livery Pack.
A second is a 3-paint package by AIRPAC1: Superbee, Kahonees and Orangechecker . One is the AIRPAC1 Savage Carbon Pack (2 paints) and one for the AIRPAC1 Savage Grravel Pack (3 paints).
And the third is a 2-pack: STOL Addicts and Valkyrie. TheHodge146 Savage Carbon Pack and TheHodge146 Savage Grravel Pack.

In addition, Yujin has 4 nice separate paints for the Savage Carbon...Alaska Bear, Alaska Grizzly, Classy (Lemon), and Laranja (Orange).

I'll choose the 2019 Alaska Airmen's Raffle Super Cub by Above Alaska Aviation: N1912A on its "Alaska" 35-inch tires. (The Savage Grravel version, in the USAFNukem pack here.)

Having trouble finding the Western Chugach Sceneries? After you have sampled a sufficient number of the 44 beers at the Palmer Alehouse it will come to you. Look under "T" for the "The" Western Chugach and you'll find that Yukon gold you been searching for. I realize I'm probably preaching to the choir with the exodus to MFS.

I think I have everything I need downloaded and have purchased a fresh bottle of tylenol. Wish me luck in the installation. If successful, I'll see you at the flight line tomorrow.

Those bee the ones.  (Tylenol being supplied as a prerequisite!! for this chilly trip! )

Thanks Gunter. Indeed this area looks good in all of the sims versions (even P3Dv3).

It's definitely a quieter place up in these parts, rugged, rustic, tranquil? majestic even, untamed without inference from us (for the most part). It is nice to get up here once in a while to keep us feeling humble and small.

Oh, Ted, by the way, what sim are you using? lol.. Oh yeah, no need to say, I think we have already established what sim and version you use (every time we fly) thanks to much prompting by Ron. lol
