I fly the TBM 930, the CJ4 and the Longitude out of medium regional airports and find the airport scenery to be very adequate. I mean, how much time do you really spend staring at the airport scenery? When I look at youtube commercials about addon airports, they often show how the inside of the terminal or how detailed the parking lot is. Seems pointless. I imagine few simmers spend time standing outside in the parking lot in front of the main terminal. Buying Zinertek's ground textures further improved the look of the detault airports.

Speaking of Orbx, anyone know why they don't have an official Discord channel? I see they have one for the Volanta Beta but not a Public one. They don’t tolerate any criticism, valid or not so Discord is out for them. Mark CYYZ

I also find a lot of the default airports pretty adequate, and some like the recent Lethbridge scenery to be basically the payware quality of P3D. I have purchased some scenery, but I am not on the lookout for it like I used to be. It has to be an airport that I will fly to a great deal -- for example, I picked up Buttonville because it is my home airport. I have been really impressed by how many people have taken up the task of developing a scenery and making it available. I have even been contemplating learning to do this myself and contributing some small airports to the pool. MSFS is extending or enriching the hobby for me and this is one of its primary contributions. In P3D scenery development seemed complex and difficult, and I just never thought I would have the time and energy to learn to do it so I never considered it. But now there are enough examples and tutorials and people to talk to that I think it is worth a try. Of course, maybe it is not so difficult in P3D and developers just conveyed a sense of mystique and hardship that it seemed that way. Regardless, MSFS is extending and enriching the hobby for me. Many of their MSFS airports feel a bit lifeless. I think that will go away when we get proper ground services and good traffic addons. Personally, I think KBUR and KSJC are magnificient. Unfortunately, a lot of the detail is not on the airside- rather the terminals and surrounding area. But, take a drone flight around the airports and you'll be blown away at the detail. My only gripe is the sloppy work of jetways at KSJC- a lot of them don't connect to aircraft.

January 30, 20215 yr ASOBO/MS has a good relationship with ORBX and several other comps. Besides the airports and scenery that they sell, I wonder what else they are doing in house for MSFS 2020. I like that they have developed on their own a number of scenery design tools, for example the Airport Creator that works in sim. One day they will make their way to the SDK? And while they're at it, they might get the AI up and running too.

January 30, 20215 yr About purchasing add-on airports, I buy them for the beauty which can, often, only be seen if it's done by a custom developer. Orbx excels at this. Many of their airports...Starks Twin Oaks, Concrete, Darrington, Orca's Island, Santa Barbara, Key West...are just gorgeous and you won't get that out of a generic treatment. That said, I have flown into some generic airports and, yeah, they look good. But there are times where you just want that beauty. January 30, 20215 yr Orbx had a contract to adjust a bunch of the US airports for the US World Update, and their update to KLGB is totally incorrect. Runways the wrong length, totally missing markings on one runway, terrible. And Bing Maps had an awesome aerial view from 2020 they could have referenced to. Takes all of 15 seconds to pull up. So I can't say I'm impressed at this point. AMD 3950X | 64GB RAM | AMD 5700XT | CH Fighterstick / Pro Throttle / Pro Pedals
