February 6, 20215 yr Looks to be a terrific flight over country that is relatively new to our group. Here is a bit of local color about an event that occurred near our route. About 20 miles north of our stop at HKVO, the main Mombasa-Nairobi railroad crosses the Tsavo River. (Very near HKUC.) It was in the 1898 construction of the Tsavo bridge that the British encountered a spot of bother from the local fauna. As reported to the House of Lords by Lord Salisbury, the PM: "The whole of the works were put to a stop because a pair of man-eating lions appeared in the locality and conceived a most unfortunate taste for our workmen. ..." You might enjoy the story and its details as told in the Wikipedia entry here. Some slightly gruesome parts, but on the whole a tale of how the Empire was won by an enthusiastic sportsman. --Mike MacKuen
February 6, 20215 yr Just a heads-up. Setting up for today's flight I found that real weather wise they're not having a very nice day in Nairobi. I wound the weather back to 1st Feb 2021 (1600UTC) and got something much better.
February 6, 20215 yr Sorry can't attend. I have an appointment and another commitment to attend to. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
