Spitfire!

Some shots from a flight this morning. Its like driving a hot rod.

The final shot, the radiators. 2 different fascia's  = 2 different systems being cooled?

Bit of a long one, and the rendering quality is a bit iffy, but here's my channel review of this thing:

Thanks Chock.  Wow!  The Sunday afternoon matinee is back!    I will get popcorn and toffee's next time.

I have seen enough now.  I am definitely getting this, along with the JF Arrow as soon as it is ready.

I still think the sim has issues with straight line stability on the runway.  I see so many seasoned and experienced flight sim users weaving about and having 'minor excursions' (I have trouble myself).
Hopefully the upcoming 'aerodynamics' update (including some ground handling tweaks) will help.

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Great review. Thanks.

It really is a fun plane.

Great plane for low level hooliganism.

And a challenge to land for sure, especially in x-wind.

I too like the sound, quite immersive if you crank up the volume and have a sub woofer, or great headphone to spare your cats and other domestics...spit.jpg

I had a heck of a time figuring out how to get this thing off the ground without corkscrewing back into the earth.   Finally got the feel for it though.  The manual says to use 7 pounds of boost, but that from the start was suicidal for me.   A small twist right rudder, one mark down trim, set boot to 4, dance very lightly on the rudder.   Once you're barely skimming the earth slowly feed in up to 7 pounds.   On positive climb, gear up and accelerate away.

It may not be by the book, but it tamed the beast for me.

Once in the air, she's awesome.

One problem is that starting from cold and dark, the ATC radio doesn't work. It keeps saying electrical systems need to be on. I don't know what those ABCD buttons do, but none of them make a difference. If I spawn on the runway, though, the radio works. Any insight?

You can work around this for now by using the Avionics On key mapping when you've got the battery, etc. on - I think the default is Page Up. That'll then allow you use the ATC radio when going from cold and dark.

Elevator aft and little right aileron up also helps

I just purchased this aircraft, it looks good, the sound is very good but the flight model, physics and aerodynamics leaves to be desired, imo

Right now, the best Spitfire is the one ( there are two, actually ) from IL 2 Sturmovik battle of Stalingrad

By far....

You can " feel " the heaviness of the aircraft, when you roll, pitch..

The same goes for the Fiat G91, F15, MB 339

They feel so " stiff " when rolling, pitch...

Is that because of the Asobo SDK limitations or the developers of the aircrafts?

I'd pay 3 times the price, to have a better flight model

I only know what Mustangs sound like because once a couple of them have flown right over our house several times. But judging by the Youtube videos of the real thing, the engines in this version is not quite Merliny enough, if that makes sense. If blindfolded I could not identify it from other warbirds in other sims. Overall, I rate this Spitfire as A+++. So my complaint is not important!

What control sensitivity settings do you use? What I was finding was that I'd move the stick slightly and nothing was happening until I'd move it a bit more and then then things started moving with a bit of a delayed reaction. I think it's related to the Reactivity settings that Asobo put in a while back. What fixed it for me is I put Reactivity to 100% for the 3 axes and removed the dead zone. Now it's more like what I'm used to where small movements in the stick translate into the kind of movements I was expecting with no delay.

Whatever settings I use, the aerodynamics, flight model, physics, are poor

The aircrafts feel stiff

MFS Flight Model is a work in progress. Right now it's just not feeling right, compared to sims such as DCS, which is the best IMO for giving the proper feeling. Let's hope the SimUpdate coming up this week, and following updates can address the shortcomings of the FM.

Doesn't really feel stiff to me LOL Really don't how airplane may feel stiff in MSFS perhaps with some kind of force feed stick? However, if refer  to laggy response that the best way to tweak it  to play with setting to get  correct feel for a taste! In my experience it actually vary from stick to stick. For example my TM Warthog and TM Airbus have two  different settings in MSFS. Worth a try

It's just the poor Asobo flight model

As Alec said, MSFlight Model is a work in progress

Hopefully, they'll improve it in the future
