P3D V5.1 DISPLAY SETTINGS

Recommended Posts

Greetings all,

Simply put, as much as I like EA, my video card has only 6gigs of RAM, and so I am limited as to settings. I think my best bet, short of a new card, is to work with HDR as best I can. However, the problem there is that my monitor does not support HDR. So, considering those limitations, what is your advice in re internal P3D settings to get the most natural look possible, inside and outside the cockpit. What about Nvidia Control settings? Ideas are welcome, and yes, I know the correct answer is to upgrade my system. I am not ready to do that since I just purchased my card, GTX 1660ti less than a year ago.

This is a screen shot taken at 0754 KUGN 2/15/21 with Active Sky and Active Sky Cloud Art. Actually, I think it looks fairly realistic. Comments solicited.

WITHOUT EA

WITH EA, A LITTLE LATER IN THE MORNING

Frankly, I think without EA looks better, at least in this shot. But, I do like the richer atmospherics when EA is selected.

Thanks for helping me reach an impossible dream.

First and foremost, use settings suitable to your hardware for a smooth "stutter-free" experience. It's that simple unless you want specific tweaks, then it gets a bit complicated, i.e., P3D config file "edits." Second, if you want a more "natural" looking sim, then I suggest Reshade or Envtex/Envshade. With those programs, you can experiment with the "look" of the sim.

Either way, I don't think you have much of a choice but to run without EA.  Your RAM usage with EA on is a bit close to the CTD danger zone.  Personally I like the EA effects, but your first screenshot looks better.

Hi Shelman,

I have good FPS, with no stutter, so that is not the issue. I will consider adding ENvshade...can I do that without buying Envtex? I have PTA, but as you probably know, it has not been upgraded yet for V5.1

Yes, you can just buy Envshade, since Envtex is for replacing your default textures, whereas Envshade replaces default shaders. Honestly, I do own both Envtex and Envshade, but haven't installed it for v5.1. I guess its a matter of personal preference. You can just get Envshade to test out.

Don't hold your breath for a PTA update for 5.1. Sometime ago, the developer said he was not going to support 5.1 because the shader architecture is significantly different than 4.x.

Default V5 with ASCA is already good for me but since Envshade is not that expensive, I just bought it and will try it tomorrow. Installing Envtex and Envshade took me hours today due to the weird errors and confusing installation steps.

Thanks Hoang,

I am in the midst of a test flight now with EA and AS, but cannot see a thing because of clouds....anyway, when I land, I will order envshade and give it a try....

Just remember envtex and EA does not work.

envshade will if you enable the truesky check box.

Ide like to use EA mode on thou my clouds edges don’t  sharp and rounded edges  with it being also blurred.

I have seen some videos where some people’s EARS clouds look quite fluffy, full and nice sharp edges.

but don’t know what cfg tweaks they use.

would like to know so I could try.

cheers

I am still trying to learn the ropes with EnvShade...here are a couple of shots taken on a flight in NZ on the way to KZHR.

Btw, VRAM with this setting is 4.0 out of 5.1 available, so I that no I.am in safe territory.

This shot has more of a bluish tint than I prefer, but is otherwise OK

And, one more in flight...very sharp contrast

For this flight, EA was on. I am still trying to figure out best settings for EnvShade.
