As of now, what's new in P3D5 for low-end users?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. After asking here, in October I moved to P3D4 from FSX-SE, and I liked how smooth and stable was the sim, in comparison with FSX. Now, I've seen lots of people reporting even better performance in P3D5 (at least with Enhanced Atmospherics OFF). I think I may make work P3D5 in my laptop (specs in signature, but the weakest link is a GTX1050 with only 2 GB VRAM), but I'd like to know if it's worth.

In other words, what can I earn by moving to P3D5 as of now?

For reference, I wouldn't use any addon airports, just default, AFCADs and AI 100% but limited to 70 planes. Planes, well: PMDG 777, TFDi 717, Aerosoft Airbus, QW 787 are the heaviest I have. In P3D4 I can keep 30 FPS with RTSS.

Honestly, I doubt you're going to see enough of a difference with a 2GB 1050 to make it worth moving.  P3Dv5 does a good job of moving workload to and leveraging the massive and often unrealized computing power of modern GPUs--but you have to have a GPU that's up to the job to make it work.

I have Nvidia 1080 8Gb. Would that be able to handle p3dv5 with medium setting but a lot of scenery addons?

I am currently running P3D v. 5.1 hf 1 on an older Jetline system. I have a Nvidia GTX 1070 with 8GB of Vram and am able to run the sim fine even with some of the sliders pretty far to the right. I do not run a 4K resolution and that seems to be the saving grace for me. I am using Orbx scenery addons and most of my a/c addons are not complex study level. My CPU is a i-7 6700K OC to 4.6GHz with 16GB of sys. Ram. I do have P3D installed on a M,2 Samsung SSD. Even with "EA" enabled for the most part I am registering 3.1 to 3.5 usage of Vram and 30FPS locked in. In dense scenery areas like KSEA and poor weather (IFR) FPS drops and Vram usage goes up some but not anywhere into potential OOM country and sim is still flyable.

Hope this helps,

Raymie

Personally I have been impressed with what my 1070 8GB can handle. P3D has never run smoother for me. I can finally land at KLAX or KEWR without feeling like I need to massively compromise on graphics settings. But to the OP: I don't think your 1050 is up for it. 2GB VRAM is just too little.

I guess you're not using 4096 textures. If so, I'm afraid there's no hope with my current laptop and my small VRAM. Anyway, I purchased it with FSX in mind, so I'm glad at least it could manage v4.
