After some testing my conclusion is that the stutter bug might be there from August 2020 on. It just got more pronounced. I always had stutters (not only low fps) on several airports like EDDF. With Terrain Draw off even EDDF or Atlanta got a smooth high framerate. It has something to do with ground textures, obviously, and I hope that after they fix it, we have a chance that the large airport stutter might be gone.

Could it be cloud network related??    It affects some but not others ( i'm one of the lucky ones ) regardless of scenery level settings, high or low end hardware or whether flying in a high detail area or sparse area.   I had one similar occurrence a few months ago where frames dropped to 5 fps for about 10 minutes.........

I now have the CRJ for both P3D and MSFS. They're essentially the same and I dont see any major differences yet. So if MSFS doesnt cooperate I'll practice on P3D again - though nighttime scenery looks like from a 1980s Nintendo video game compared to MSFS 🤷🏻‍♂️

I hear ya but I have gotten used to P3D from dusk to dawn w/ sky colors and night lighting it's not half bad.  If it were not for PMDG birds and FSCaptain in particular I'd not by flying at all.  Which is fine too it's not bad to get out of my ruts now and again.

Short flight earlier this evening around EGGD at approx 17:00 real time and weather - all players.

1440p Ultra but LODs at 100. Stuck at the usual 30fps or less, with occasional major stutter into single digits. Then 15mins later landed back in Briz, end flight and back to menu - tea ready.

two hours later went back to game (PC still on with FS at main menu), clicked on globe  - 3fps offensive initials not allowed!!

really couldn’t be bothered to quit and restart, so just quit and played FIFA instead, that’s how desperate I am.

@crimplene 3 FPS talk

I have been watching and waiting for well over a week now, since MS / Asobo increased the potential for virtual global warming () by culling vast swathes of trees by neutralising our wonderful tree LOD fix - for reasons unknown.

But we shouldn't have the nerve to ask why apparently (you shouldn't seek to know the mind of God!), and we are being immature cry babies just to mention it. They are just virtual trees for heavens sake, and the sim isn't broken. So good luck getting an answer on that one - you will just have to accept it!  Asobo are making a sim for simmers (including all those Xbox flight simmers I have yet to find), but trees and LOD to any decent distance don't come into it. After all, you got a contrail and Orbit Airlines logo didn't you?

And because I really love the sim, I am really disappointed (and even upset) with the current state of the regressions from the updates, including this latest one with the pauses, stutters, and single figure fps in some areas, and although I paid money for the sim and do not expect major things from the updates, I do expect it to work at least as good as when I bought it in August.

However, me complaining like this is 'pure entitlement and whinging' apparently, and I am also a 'drama queen that needs to fix up my PC'.  (Its alright, the people that said this have blocked my comments so they can't see this any more, as they can't bear to read different opinions from theirs - so I might be safe from further abuse - Might be! ).

So good luck to the rest of you who share the same problems and disappointment - don't dare to portray your disappointment with any passion.  Because some of the people on here may try to make you feel bad when you have done nothing wrong yourself, but just want what you had originally.

I believe, after paying for it in August, I am ENTITELED to it working properly by the way.  I am happy with that. I am happy to feel ENTITLED to have what I paid for originally.  People who don't, well, like taking candy from a baby! I would love to sell stuff to them. Easy money!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

What makes the current state so frustrating is seemingly randomness (but not really - if you go back to the same area the same loss of FPS will happen).  I just flew MMMX to KMIA - most of it was ok (just the generally stutter out of MMMX) but descending into KMIA was really smooth and enjoyable.  Shooting the 26L approach I was over the water - about 20 miles out down to 2-5 fps for about 2 or 3 miles - then perfect on the way in.   All in all ok but the never knowing when its going to hit you makes it frustrating.....

I totally agree they should not lower the quality of the Sim to suit Xbox there should be sliders so we can keep the original delivery,I'm sure the stutters will be fixed but the degrading of the Sim is most annoying

My impressions so far with the bug:

It is related to

  • the aircraft type (higher complexity, glass cockpit) => sooner until fps plummets
  • length of flight (short flights less likely to occur)
  • terrain LOD (the higher the more likely for bug to appear)

I've done some flights in remote areas recently (Nepal, Tibet), and it's possible to fly at extended periods at high LOD (5.0 set in UserCfg.opt) but bug will eventually happen.

Had a flight in the WT CJ4 from ZULS Lhasa to VNKT Kathmandu, LOD 5.0, scenery absolutely stunning and smooth fps for a long while until... around 25nm from VNKT the fps fell to <5, didn't recover, absolutely unflyable. Another flight around 50nm west from VNKT to Bharatpur and same happened on approach. Why sim cannot maintain fps at high LOD for whole flight I don't get... it's not as it becomes more demanding for hardware into a flight when scenery complexity does not change.

I've been testing with LOD 0.5 (50 in sim menu) and I'm fine so far... not the greatest experience of course (scenery looks god awful up at altitude), but at least flyable so far.

I'm hoping for a fix to this and I will set LOD 5.0 again (which my 1080Ti handles fine in remote areas) for some stunning backcountry flights. Of course for demanding scenery (London etc) I have to put terrain LOD way down to 1.0 and object LOD as low as 0.5.

Yeah it's really weird.  I can go to the Premium Deluxe version of KSFO  with any aircraft including the CRJ and no issues.  Just north at KSMF I get nearly double CPU usage and worse FPS and it's not a big city or anything.  Also just now in prep for finally actually flying the CRJ tonight for a planned short test flight from KSMF to KSJC I found out KSJC is being really stupid.  Any plane I load is like mid-30's when usually it's in the mid-40's+ before the update especially in external views.  Turned on the in sim FPS meter and guess what the issue is.  Manipulators going red.  This is literally right across the bay from KSFO which is a much more complex area and there manipulators are solid green.  Just doesn't make any sense at all how random it is.

The randomness is part of it. i was in a live stream with about 50 other people last week and at certain spots in the flight maybe a quarter of them reported issues, and everyone else was fine.  Of the three or four spots on the route that had issues I was only affected by just one of them.

Yeah I just did one final check at KSJC, this is definitely related to manipulators and LOD interacting badly.  I loaded the A32NX which I know what performance to expect from it and started with barely 30fps.  Manipulators dipping red.  Dropped terrain LOD level from 100 to 25, 8-10fps boost in cockpit and 10+ outside, no manipulator issues.  Before SU3 I would get the LOD level at 25 performance I'm getting here with the slider still on 100.

I think  they should take the version before the latest update, and bring everyone back to that version. Then they should break the updates into small updates, rather than gigantic updates all at once. Wait a few days, see if there are problems, then release another small update. They were they are doing it now is an instant train wreck.

The trouble I with that idea is that it would break every addon that has been  updated for the current version. All hell would break loose.
