Carenado Mooney M20R - is it really pretty good

Mooneys take a lot of time to slow down, need to plan way ahead.

Isn't that what the speed brakes are for? 😉

I wish someone like Rob Young would redo the flight model for this plane,

oh yes this is an Ovation, I was talking about other Mooney (I own a J) but regardless, the flight model is subpar IMO

The Mooney and the Just Flight Arrow 3 I would rank up pretty close to an A2A GA aircraft. Both are excellent planes.

Yikes

Problem with saying it's sub par is that we'd need a par in the first place for it to be inferior to. 🤣

I too slagged Carenado a lot in P3D and usually regretted purchasing their products.  I’m enjoying the MSFS Mooney (and Seminole) much more than anything I bought in P3D.

Surely not perfect,  but a great bit of fun.

from a graphical standpoint I agree, however the Mooney has nothing close to A2A when it comes to flight dynamics, engine simulation, etc. Just have a look at this feature page, dont think Carenado is coming close to this:

I agree 100% with the Arrow, they did a great job with this plane

The Mooney, especially with the freeware GN530 mod, is very flyable. it looks good, and the flight model whilst a bit "generic Carenado"  is well behaved and not overly buggy. Basically a pleasant enough thing to fly so long as you are are aware that Carenado planes are "in the rough ball park" FM wise rather than 100% accurate to the precise real world aircraft they modelled.

The only bug I have spotted with it is a really minor electrical glitch where turning off the Bendix ADF with the volume knob also turns off the display for the AP and DME.  Turning off the ADF in flight is not something you are ever likely to do so it is not really an issue.

My guess is the average MSFS 2020 flier  wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the Mooney and say the A2A Comanche. The last couple of years I only flew the Comanche and the T6, and now I have as much fun flying the Mooney and  the Arrow 3.  The question is, if A2A releases the Comanche for MSFS 2020, would I spend $55-65 for it? ,,,I would have to think long and hard about that.

Theoretically you wouldn't have to if we are to believe the raison d'etre for those prices - allegedly because the P3D stuff was for a non-entertainment sim with more expensive production costs for licensing - although whether developers want to reel those price tags back in is another matter. I think they'd make more money going for a wider audience and volume sales on the in sim marketplace, but I'm not their accountant, so who knows?

I can't imagine A2A selling a GA air craft for less than $50.

No, probably not. Then again they're usually worth it if you want a really realistic treatment of the thing. Their Comanche 250 is one of the best things ever made for a flight sim.

The Carenado Mooney is a very decent plane but it in no way compares to an A2A plane imho. I must say though that I am quite surprised as to how good this plane is(for Carenado). I had a lot of hope for Carenado in MSFS2020. They are pretty to look at though.
