Not for the plane at all but depends if you make use of the online atc networks...

Well, I don't mind asking for support over at Aerosoft. I am just wondering why for some people this aircraft flies as it is supposed to fly and for others it doesn't. I am far from being a pro pilot but if the aircraft is on VS and ALTS, reaches the dialled in altitude and just continues to climb, or when VS is set at -500 fpm and the plane climbs at 1700 fpm, then I doubt that it's my fault.

No. You will just continue to use the last data you downloaded. Not a ton changes, so you would be fine for quite some time.

If they don’t have a VNAV mode on the MCP, then no, you can’t fly an rnav approach hands off like in a Boeing or Airbus.

if they do have a VNAV mode on the MCP then I think you can have the autopilot fly you down but I’m not sure because my airline doesn’t have that option installed on its airplanes. I have never seen or heard of a crj that has VNAV. I’m sure there are some out there though.

we have to manually change the altitude and use v/s mode.

when it comes to minimums, I can only speak for the operations i am familiar with but we can’t fly these down to LPV minimums, only LNAV minimums. LNAV mins are still charged minimums, just not as low as LPV mins.

There is a Rockwell Collins STC that can add WAAS/LPV approach capability to the Proline 4 avionics in a CRJ, with the ability to automatically fly an RNAV LPV glide path in APP mode - but almost no airline CRJ operators have that mod installed. It costs over $250,000 to install per airplane, and would also add additional training requirements for flight crews.

Good to know. Most likely why my airline doesn’t have that.

I wanted to summarize my findings after a lot of trials with the CRJ, maybe they are useful to some:

1. At least with my peripherals she does not like if I bind the elevator axis to a joystick axis. If I map it to keyboard buttons, the problems with climb, descent and alt hold are gone.

2. She does capture the glideslope but the margin of tolerance is very small in my view. If the descent pitch and the altitude are not spot on, there is little to no room to correct.

I do not regret having bought the CRJ. Still looking for an update which makes glideslope capturing a bit less demanding.

Anyone know how to bind a key for reverse thrusters to operate. It does not use the default settings I have mapped for other planes.

I finally captured a G/S, had to keep airspeeds up above 170, and only a bit of flaps, so it did not dive into the parking lot or houses...

I tried but couldn't get it to work. Resorting to F2 for the moment.

just did a flight from LOWI to LIMJ in the CRJ. I got so fed up with it not following the LNAV that I just alt f4 out the sim in the middle of the STAR. The airplane is really annoying in the state it is right now, and for me it is basically unplayable. I dont care that M.Koch thinks we all should just learn to handfly to overcome the issues.

Flying the star and in any kind of turn, the airplane flies like a drunken sailor, unable to calculate the efficient turn radius. So it over shoots and turns back on itself. If the star have several of these turns right after the other then it just simply gives up and flies straight even if the AP is on and it says FMS1 in the FMA.

I havent gotten it to fly a single glideslope capture.

It's nice and all, but the CJ4 which is free is actually a much better airplane.

Since there are no autothrottle I found managing good STAR speed helps to avoid "drunken sailor behaviour. Even though CRJ suffered with some bugs I really enjoy flying CRJ since it requires to goof pilod skills in order not to get behind airplane  rather than sit back and watch autopilot do all job! It's challenging but yet rewarding. And yes I'm not big fun of how  M.Kock responses on his forum

I cant be expected to fly turns at 180 knots at fl 200 just to make the turn without the AP loosing track of the LNAV... 😄

I my case FMC create "P turn". Just FYI IRL I do all my holding patterns by hand and it's not that bad as long I figured a correct entry 🙂

I see that, but Im not talking about holding patterns though. Im just talking about normal routing with several turns after eachother, which isnt all that uncommon at least in europe.

I know. Holding pattern also served as procedure turn for an approach. Which often is 180 degrees turn. sometimes. Sometimes IRL when I do lousy procedure turn I ask ATC to make another turn to established on approach better.

Again I'm not saying thatAerosoft CRJ autopilot is perfect - not at all. I'm just saying to take this opportunity to get rust off some hand flying skills:) By the way what what it worth when it comes to SID/STARS sometimes I do reset/recycle autopilot as it stop following my route (especially turning off and on NAV helps). I'm not sure if its a bug or a feature! 🙂JRBarrett would a person to ask!
