There are still issues with the A320 A/P - workaround

Recommended Posts

Premise: I have set 10% deadzones for the controller, the issue is not related to that.

Even if USR / USER waypoints are not generated anymore, I noticed that when I modify the flight plan during the flight, the aircraft starts to fly in circles trying to reach the waypoint it has just passed.

This happens for example when I start a flight without selecting an arrival procedure in the MCDU and I do it as I approach the airport, once instructed by the ATC (usually 40-60 miles from destination).

A workaround I found is selecting a direct route (DIR function of the MCDU) to the next waypoint of the approach route immediately after having entered the arrival procedure.

Did you notice this too? Any suggestions?

Thanks! 🙂

Ah thank you, i've been trying to work that out for ages!  Another glaring problem that Asobo seem none too fussed about solving.  I guess they never professed to having study level aircraft in the sim.

If you want to take a leap of faith and fine with experimental version, login to their discord and you will find the experimental autopilot. Remember, it is experimental so things maybe broken (not that I noticed). This will fix all these issues you have

Is it also available in one of the github branches? If yes, does this version also include the custom FBW?

Yep, is 'autopilot' branch, there is a zip link that is built on every commit and available in discord (please note if you use it, that means you will need to report issues in the autopilot channel, like beta testers). It includes the following:

- custom fly-by-wire.

- custom autopilot.

- custom engine model (no more spikes).

- custom fadec.

- custom ATHR.

- soon: custom flightplan

Be aware of the known issues by reading first this document https://www.github.com/flybywiresim/a32nx/tree/autopilot/docs%2FREADME.md

Also, read the autopilot channel in discord, there maybe things have been fixed/added but not mentioned there like the thorttle configs in the EFB or the issue that engine couldn't be started which was fixed few weeks ago.

Non "study level" doesn't mean dysfunctional. The aircraft is supposed to be simplified in its functionalities and lacking features  but robust and working.

Exactly. I can live with the many "inop" buttons but the A/P must work on an airliner because it's the only way you can pilot an airliner.

However for the others I would like to specify that I am talking about the default A320 Neo, not 3rd party (FBW). I stopped using A32NX because of the performance (-10 fps).
