Visual aircraft and aircraft tags are still limited to about 10 nm.AI aircraft are actively tracked and 'flown' for a distance of up to 108nm from your aircraft. This distance might be shorter due to bondaries in some locations.

Is it possible to expand that distance so more planes could be watched? 108 miles sounds like a lot but when you watch the aircraft they dissapear all over the place because they reached their "limit"

The 108 NM is a hard code dll in FS9/FSX and you have no way of expanding it.This is what is refered to as the Visual AI Zone (made up of rectangle sections)and is based on the radius value of the user airplane. If you zoom out using the Traffictoolbox dll the AI Planes are still using the 108 NM's when they appear or disappear. In some countries like Reggie says this NM radius value can be a bit smaller do to Borders and Boundry's in FS.
