Unable to Complete Installation

Recommended Posts

I am hoping that someone might be able to assist here as I've tried just about everything I can find on google without any success in fully installing MSFS2020.

In September of last year, I tried out Game Pass and downloaded/installed MSFS 2020 onto my PC without issues. The sim wasn't ready for what I wanted to use it for and I uninstalled from my PC and cancelled my Game Pass subscription.

Last month, I signed up for Game Pass again and attempted to install leaving the game to download files overnight without any success and using up almost all of my monthly internet cap.

With a new month, I am trying once more with my attempts below however I cannot seem to get it to work and am at the point where maybe I just need to stick to X-Plane with Ortho.

  • Install into E:\MSFS 2020 folder which the drive has been formatted just prior.
  • Cleared space on C:\ and let it install into default locations.
  • Reset Windows Store/X-Box app through the Windows Settings menu
  • Delete previous file downloaded to restart the process; most notoriously I get hung up on fs-base-0.1.61.fspackage.004 and sits in a loop.
  • Changed DNS servers, forced static IP address.
  • Reset the Windows Store using

Beside attempting to purchase through Steam I am stuck, and do not want to "let it run" as it keeps downloading through my bandwidth cap.

Is there a DVD version which I can purchase? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Tom

Hello,

Do not but the Dvd version because you will still need to download all updates. And if a dvd fails (read error) you will not be able to install it !

Steam will also download +- 80 Gb. Same with Microsoft version and Game pass !

You should probably bring your computer somewhere where bandwidth cap is not a problem, just to install it !
And go back home once everything is ready for use

I had a similar situation and had to pay 20 more a month for an unlimited data plan.  Good luck with it.

Neither are really a solution, of my 1229GB data cap (Comcast) I end months using between 450-550gb. I should be able to download this sim 4 times over however their CDN cannot seem to deliver files in a consistent manner.

Are there direct download links to the required files somewhere?

I solved identical problem (download MSFS was stuck on one file) by 2 methods both learned here from other people in this forum.

method 1) stop the installation and reduce the internet connection speed by doing this:

a) Type Windows key + R to bring up Run window and type: command

that will open a dos window.

b) type ipconfig and look for: default gateway

that will be an internet page URL where you can reduce router speed or do other reconfigurations (the login and password are both (lowercase): admin

c) Type in your trial reduced speed and check the Save box and then restart MSFS installation

Method 2 (delete the previous downoaded file). stop the installation process and then...

a) Find the folder location where the file listed at the bottom of the MSFS page as the download is processing (learn to use a file search utility if you don't know how to find a file location when you know the filename).

b) go to that folder and arrange the files in it by time and date.

c) delete (i.e. move to desktop or to recycle bin) the last file downloaded immediately before the one that is now downloading. (If it is stuck downloading wonderfulfile.004, chances are the previous downloaded file will be wonderfulfile.003).

restart the installation

As mentioned, the first and months later the second method saved my installation stuck problems.

Circling back to this thread just in case someone else may find it and use it as a solution.

I tried the above from Fielder with no luck, however by shear luck I could not find the game in the start menu and launched the app from the Windows store app and MSFS2020 downloaded in it's entirety without any hiccups that I can see.

Whether or not having the Windows store open or launched from the store made a difference I am not about to remove it just to find out.
