32" WQHD Monitor with GTX 1070

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

does it make sense to switch to a new 32" WQHD Monitor (2550x1440) 144hz ?

Acutally I have an 27" Samsung FHD 1080p Monitor with 60hz. Is my GTX 1070 able to handle the new monitor with more FPS?

Now P3D v5 peforms on medium - high settings with 30 FPS limit ingame.

My CPU is an I7-7700k.

Thanks.

More FPS would be very unlikely, you are nearly doubling the number of pixels going from 1080 to 1440 (78% more).

I have the GTX 1070 and received my 32" Samsung Odyssey G5 which is a WQHD Monitor (2550x1440) @144hz. I haven't noticed in frame increase but I have noticed that P3d5 performs way better and looks better to. For instance, I have no more micro stutters or pauses that I had before on my 27" Dell 1080P @75hz. I'm currently waiting for the 3080ti release so I can push the sliders a little more to the right.

Sorry that is what I meant. FPS was wrong but if it helps to decrease stutters and looks the sim smoother.

Do I have to lower my settings due to more pixels?

Nope! You do not. In fact, I increased one setting in particular. I went from 4x MSAA to 4x SSAA. I haven't played with the other settings yet.

The key to getting a smooth performance is to never let the GPU or CPU Core1 to hit 100%. The best way of achieving this is to set 30Hz on your monitor if it can support it. Only the better ones can. Set Unlimited performance in P3D, set vSync on and check Triple Buffering.

Then use Riva Tuner SS / Afterburner to display GPU and CPU1 usage. As soon as 100% is hit with either the stutters will start and fps will drop below 30fps.

Reduce sliders until you achieve 30 at a busy airport. Then it will be fine everywhere else.

Thanks Ray.

The problem is if i set unlimited performance in P3D me ground textures starts to get blurry although i limit frames extern.

My actual monitor only can set 60hz the new one will be a AOC CQ32G1 and we will see.

@mobiel, unfortunately the AOC can only do 60hz but there are ways around that with various utilities. Riva Tuner SS being one. Here's the manual. Resolutions supported are near the end.

Thank you!
But do I missunderstand something? The AOC is able to handle 144hz

Yes it does but that’s of no help for P3D. Less is better. 😉

What would be the best settings with the News Monitor?
Vsync, fps Limit etc?

First install Riva Tuner SS and set it for 1/2 refresh rate. I don’t know the exact procedure but hopefully someone will chip in.

Then FPS Limiter to unlimited and VSync enabled. Check triple buffering too.

Good luck.
