Tips to get current weather at airport with QNH

Featured Replies

Hi! Im getting a bit fed up with the atis in msfs only presents the air pressure in Hpa and not QNH. Which males it very annoying when flying in Europe. And since the atis in Msfs never matches the real life metar of the airports getting a real metar is not a choice either... Any tips?

MSFS has been using real time METARS for airport temperature, pressure and wind since early December. I have found that the pressure corresponds to the actual current METAR probably 95 percent of the time. Clouds and precipitation might be very different, but the temperature, pressure and wind are normally identical to the current METAR, unless you are at a small airport that does not report METAR.

I think you are confused by the terminology. You said that the ATIS reports in HPa, but that is HectoPascals which is exactly what you want in Europe. The sim ATIS reports in inches of mercury (in/hg) which is the system used in the US.

“QNH” simply means current barometric pressure in whatever units of measurement are standard for the country you are in at the time.

In any case, if you want the current pressure, just press the “B” key on your keyboard, which will automatically sync your altimeter to the actual pressure being injected into the sim at the aircraft’s current position.

Adding to Jim's post that you can change the units of air pressure between HPa and in/hg by opening the options>general tab and going to the Misc>units of measurement line

but regardless of that setting ATIS still tells the QNH in mmHg instead of mbar in Europe. I'd think that needs to be fixed.

1. A320 home cockpit (FSLabs, Skalarki), P3Dv5  Main PC : I7-12700K, GTX3080Ti

2. FSLabs A3xx, P3Dv5. Gigabyte Aorus 17G YC, I7-10700K, RTX 3080

I use a plugin from flightsim.to called fspm vfr map. This also shows the wind and temperatures in c and f. Works great.

Unreal Weathe https://unrealweather.blogspot.com/2020/09/unreal-weather-live-metar-released.html

Perfect free addon. Integrated UI and perfect match with airport weather (Metar) and QNH is just there for you.

Happy Flying.

I can add to this there are many apps for cell phones available (free) that will give metars for any airport. Ideal for desktop flying. In VR I use RafaelSantos apps, which work very well:

You can enter an airport identifier toward the bottom of the first screen (Location dependent on screen size/resolution.  😊).
