Welcome to AvSim Fabien. I have moved your post to the CTD forum. A couple of questions...

What Operating System?

Please list your hardware. CPU, GPU, RAM and resolution of your monitor. Are you overclocking the graphics card?

Does P3D get as far as showing the Scenario screen where you can choose aircraft, airport etc?

If you're using a Nvidia graphics card, There are known crash to desktop (CTD) issues with the latest version 465.89 GeForce Game Ready drivers.  I downloaded and installed version 461.92 and they worked ok.

Specs: black box thingy with spinning fans, lights and a bunch of wires that go to screens with pretty colours and a keyboard with many keys. The black box thingy also has a push button activated coffee cup holder.

Hello all,

Since a few days Prepar3d v-5.1 crashes every time. I have installed Geforce NVIDIA graphics card driver version 461.92 but that did not help.

I did twice a complete re-inslall of Prepar3d which did not help either. When the default screen appears, I push the ok button. After loading the scenario, I get a blue screen with clouds in the lower part. After a few moments the program crashes.

Can someone help me please. The program has been running perfectly till last week. The only change could be the graphics card.

Thanks very much

regards

Hans

Something to try... Try loading the default flight first. Then after it loads select the airport and aircraft you want to go to. If it still crashes, give it about 30 seconds, then start P3d again and start the same flight again, it may work. It sounds crazy but give it a try. This is what worked on a friends system.

Do other 3d applications work? If so then lower graphic settings to minimum and try again to see if your simply running out of Vram, which is easy to do with high or max settings and will cause a crash.

I did as you suggested, but I can't get it working. It points, with my limited knowledge, to the driver I installed last week. That is the only change I made for weeks when it worked fine.

Thanks for your help.

@hanss, if these problems only started after you changed your graphics drivers I suspect you haven’t uninstalled them correctly.

Download DDU from this site.

https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

You will need to reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU for the drivers to be uninstalled correctly. Once that is done restart the computer and install drivers you know are okay.

Thank you Ray,

I'll give it a try. Though I am a bit uneasy on using DDU in  Safe Mode and all that.

You'll hear from me.

@hanss, here are the steps you need to take. It's very simple and very safe, honestly.

  1. Download DDU

  2. Restart windows into safe mode. This can be found in settings > update & security > recovery > click "restart now" under advanced startup. Alternatively, you can hold down shift while clicking "restart" under the usual windows power-down menu.

  3. Once it boots back up into the blue screen, select "troubleshoot"

  4. Select "advanced options"

  5. Select "startup settings"

  6. Click "restart"

  7. Press 4 on your keyboard for "Enable Safe Mode"

  8. Once you are booted into safe mode, find where you downloaded DDU and run it. It should be relatively straightforward - select the option where it uninstalls drivers and restarts the PC.

  9. Your display drivers should be uninstalled once you boot back into windows. Feel free to now install your display driver.

Hello Ray,

Thanks again.

I did all you advised and the installation went well, with one exception it did not install driver 461.92 but another driver: 457.51, which is odd I'd say. Geforce said that the installation of 461.92 was not possible.

Prepar started up and showed the opening screen. At this point it crashed untill now. I loaded the flight but when completed I only saw the blue screen for a few seconds before the program crashed again.

What next? Could it be something else than the driver? Or the settings of prepar, which hadn't been changed for a long time?

Thanks in advance for any other suggestion.

Regards

Hans
