white dots and artifacts with AMD video cards

Just wondering if anyone's getting white dots and and artifact shimmering lines with those cards.

I'm quite positive its not a hardware failure issue as this only effects airport textures (not all airports , mind you) and and when viewed at certain angles.

Using a 6900xt with 21.2.3 drivers

I'd try following: Delete shader cache. decrease settings in P3D and compare.

Are you using EA mode? There are some shimmering issues with that and airports through the haze/clouds.

I have it too with a NVIDIA card. White dots appear and disappear if I have a dark background (e.g Viewing runway under cloudy conditions). Otherwise it it barely noticeable.

Yes, under those exact conditions! 

And it appears mostly under a tangent view angle either when looking from the cockpit on runways and taxiways or with outside view at low angles as Nemo said - on dark surfaces.

 

I recently moved to a new AMD based build (5800x and 6900 xt) and  the extra vram I got over my previous 1060 allowed me to move to v5.

AMD cards being relatively uncommon, I really don't know what to expect in terms of both performance and quirks.

Performance of 6900xt is stellar! I can’t speak for the 5800, but that should also be excellent. 
 

with 3900x and 6900xt I’m able to lock frames at 60 99% of the time. Only drops to 30-40 range in the usual areas around Heathrow or other heavy ai areas. 
 

if you haven’t already consider oc’ing the 6900xt I have mine running at 2700MHz. 
 

I used a tool called “More Power Tool” to adjust the watts up to 325. Also using the power limit in the driver adds 15% so it tops out 370-380 watts at full whack. I have Red Devil card with 3 8-pin power sockets. 
 

All this has added 10-15% of extra and free (minus the extra watts 😎) performance.

We share the exact same card then....it's a massive beast.

Yeah, frames range anywhere between 30 and 60 (capped through vsync). Rarely goes below 30 mostly with unoptimized scenery and heavy ai etc.

I'm a bit reluctant to overclock. With heavy loads the hotspot temperature may hover around 100c (die and junction are much lower of course). My previous experience with GPU overclock wasn't stellar either. Perhaps I'll find some extra performance if I could properly optimize the CPU but coming from intel I still need to learn how to do it on an amd chip

Google for CTR 2.0. Its a tool for OC'ing or optimising the CPU, made by 1usmus. It's on guru3d website. Have a read there.

It's a lot easier than going through the BIOS, which what I have always done up till I found CTR. With CTR you can make it a lot more efficient. I have 2 CCX set to 4250mhz and the other 2 set to 4100mhz. Your 5800 should do much better 😎

You can set at what CPU usage it will kick in. I set that to 50%, So under 50% load will still give you the full boost from PBR then over 50% CTR kicks in. 

 

Any way check it out I find it to be good.
