when was the last time you tried running with Bloom OFF?

Ahh, I see.  I've always had it set on ultra but never would have guessed that was the effect as I never see that foreground clarity and background blurriness, out of focus.  Thanks both of you.

That's because DOF is only used by the sim when the drone camera is activated and in the main menu hanger. Otherwise it's not used in any other camera view or anywhere else

The option is Off since day 1 and I wish I could lessen the built-in one.

Always have it On as I like the bright effect on the clouds because of the sunlight. And the nightlighting effect.

Will try it Off today with my flight to see if it helps with my framerate reduction...

I generally dislike bloom but I noticed in MSFS it makes the lights at airports show up better and beacon lights actually flash with a extended viewable area.

I have it on since it enhances the visuals at night. Also as someone mentioned above, it also gives clouds a more vibrant look during daytime.

I had Bloom off in FSX as my version had so many mods that my PC could not keep up.  I have a feeling that I installed a mod that created bloom effects that was better and less framerate hungry.  In MSFS, I have always run with bloom turned on as it looks a lot more natural to me and my FPS is more than acceptable.  The depth of field is something I had not given too much attention to up until now, but I will experiment with both next time I run the sim.

If I gain or lose 4 or 5 FPS it makes little difference to me, but the cumulative effect of making a number of small changes can make the difference between something that is flyable and something that is not.  So long as I have 30 FPS and a smooth experience I am happy - a smooth 30 fps for me is a lot better than a choppy 60 fps (those using VR might disagree though).

Instead of the unrealistic Bloom effect i would highly appreciate something like "simulated sunglasses" you can put on in the sim. Would be very helpful and add more realism than those overdone eyecandies.

Same here, although it adds some cheesy stuff, it seems to improve the realism for some lighting

I wish more planes had the cockpit glass tint of the Cessna Longitude, It darkens the already too bright and washed out looking sunny weather/day time.

Interesting thread.

I've just been leaving everything on default and using HIGH sometimes ULTRA.

I remember "Bloom" was an issue for me when using FSX before the DX11 mod?

I'll turn it off and see if it improves performance! Thanks for this tip.

In VR always on. The sunlight reflections from wing or panel gives a nice glare in the corner of the eye, very realistic. And almost blinding when looking straight into it.

It's the "blinding" bit I want to get rid off. Everything outside looks over-exposed much of the time unless I dial-in some clouds and change the time of day. It's really off-putting.

EDIT: I should add both my PC monitors are calibrated weekly due to my work so it's not the screens at fault!
