X-Plane looks horrible. How to improve it?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have owned X-Plane 11 for a while now, but rarely fly it. The biggest reason I don't fly it is for the graphics. It just looks Awful, with my FS2004 install looking better (it's had ton's of graphics improvements). With that said, Could you put together a list of the must have addons? yes there are tons of them on youtube but they don't seem to make a big change. I am looking at the Sky environment, clouds, airports, etc. The clouds have always been the worst part of X-Plane to me, which is now amplified as I am a big MSFS2020 flyer, and a real world pilot. any input is appreciated. Thanks!

I fly X-Plane "vanilla" with no add-ons at all and am quite content.

If your emphasis is on the visual aspect of flying I recommend sticking to MSFS. X-Plane will not beat it, not even with all the addons that money can buy.

Cheers, Jan

If your here to fly planes than xplane, if your here to look out the window than ms.

MSFS

As per the quote below:

'Beauty in the eye of the beholder' has a literal meaning - that the perception of beauty is subjective - what one person finds beautiful another may not.

Sure, MSFS is lovely and beautiful and I'm sure going to enjoy it as much as the next person when I do get around to purchasing it sometime later this year.  But X-Plane 11 out of the box is not bad at all. To me it looks fine the why it is and of course you can improve the looks.  I am really enjoying the different little aspects of the differences in X-Plane.  I've been so accustomed for so many years with the likes of FSX and P3D that X-Plane-11 is kind of new to me even though it has been out for quite sometime now so maybe that is why I am enjoying it and not in a hurry to get MSFS.

It depends on where you want to fly, but ORBX TE for XP are a must have. You can then populate the airports in each region. My favorite airports are from Verticalsim, MysterX6 (ShortFinal) ORBX, FlyTampa, etc. It's better if we narrow it down to a specific region or country. There are many freeware airports. Just do a search for the one's you want to try.

You can fill the rest of the world with SF Global by MysterX6 and you could try some free Ortho & Overlays.

Weather: ASXP with xVision or my current choice, xEnviro. Every time I load a flight and enable xEnviro I get weather that's as real as the one on my fltplan ap. Amazing!

I'm also using Reshade.

Just a thought.  You come into an XP forum and say it looks horrible... not sure how much help you're going to get hehe.

Maybe something more along the lines of "Help improving the look of my xp11 install"

A lot of people use Ortho4XP.  It takes quite a bit of time to do (and initially to learn how to do it) - but you can have some very hi res imagery (at cost to your SSD).  I still fly XP11 mostly for beta testing but I run Orbx TrueEarth Socal, and also own their TE Washington HD and Oregon HD (but not installed).  The HD scenery I think is ZL (zoom level) 16-17.  And just one area takes about 150 GB of SSD space.

I would second ASXP for weather.  xEnviro gets good reviews but I don't use it.  That will make your clouds look more realistic for the most part.

Q8 Pilot has a video on a few mods you can use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMqOnq8FL9o

Go look on xplane.org for a lot of MisterX stuff - he's made some imrpoved trees and airport textures.  He also has a lot of freeware (and some payware I think it's called ShortFinal or something) https://store.x-plane.org/Short-Final-MisterX6_c_394.html

His post history looks to be ALL MSFS related.  I'm smelling a troll trying to bait.

Why do I see nothing but a troll?

Agreed with @ryanbatcund, the OP makes no sense.  The forums are loaded with stuff on how to enhance the sim.

Its different for different folks. The OP doesn´t fly X-Plane 11 because his FS2004 looks better.

I don´t fly MSFS because my X-Plane 8 flies better. 😉

But, but, but...muh CLOUDS!!!!!

IMHO, most X-Plane users have no idea of how to make XP11 look great. We need more threads like this one, even if it's a by a troll.
