Best GA Airplane For World Tour?

Featured Replies

The older Piaggio Avanti's are expensive but not AS bad in the used market. They would be the fastest solution to go around the world if counting dual props (expensive though), but as far as practical, no clue on that one as there are a lot of variables.

The one limiting factor might be the range, with a long range cruise limit of about 950 miles.

That is probably going to be the limit of your own biological range anyways.

Another reason for a TBM  ( though I somewhat doubt the legality, if your solo, of ducking off to sit on the lavatory and read a magazine with the aircraft flying unattended on autopilot.) .

Lots of real world videos on you tube of a Bonanza flier who started his aviation experience by a solo round the world trip in it.

This is very true as I've experienced in RL on a relatively long (5hrs) cross-country flight as single pilot in a small GA aircraft. Without going into details I had to divert to another airport to attend to some urgent needs 🤪

World trip I'd choose either the TBM or the CJ personally, so TBM for the OP I guess - can get high & fast for ocean crossings, but get in and out of small strips if you are so inclined.... Best of both worlds.

The in house Beechcraft Baron would not be a bad choice, 1400 mile range, 20,000+ ceiling and a cruise speed of 176knts, de icing equipment and easy to fly. 😎

I can't speak for EASA or CAA regs, but FARs specifically have provisions for meeting crew biological requirements. I know, it's hard to imaging a streak of humanity in the regulators, but none the less...
