FPS counter OFF - back to happiness

Featured Replies

I've decided the developer mode frames counter isn't telling me what I thought it was.

I was running 'V Sync ON 30FPS' and the counter said I was severely GPU limited with my settings. It was flashing red much of the time which I took to mean I was overworking and therefore possibly damaging my GPU so I set out to decrease settings to get it out of the red and I managed to get it to be mostly in the yellow but still intermittent red spikes.  The millisecond times were peaking at around 41ms for the GPU.

I decided to try 'V Sync ON 20FPS' and still I was GPU limited with yellow and flashes of red but the millisecond times were now down in the 20 ms range.  Then I turn V Sync OFF and my frames shoot up to near 50 and all the red spikes disappear and if I turn off atmospheric effects I get all greens everywhere... but I like my clouds...  and for some reason this sim runs about the same looking very bad as it does when you set it to look fantastic.  and, for me, even looking fantastic and running a bit rough, my GPU temps are about 65 C so I think thats pretty good really.

Im going back to happy ignorance.  The latest driver - 466.11 -  seems to make things smoother than my previous driver - especially on the taxiways/runways at slow speeds where I was having stuttery/ choppy behaviour.

time to just fly again and be happy.  If I'd never looked at the FPS counter to begin with, I think I never would have known to be unhappy.
