May 2, 20215 yr Smartphones are impressive. Shortly after the iPhone 11 was introduced, I made the leap from a flip-phone, circa 2001, to an iPhone 11. I did not like it at first, now I would not want to be without it. My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

May 2, 20215 yr When I got my iPhone I was really a dumbass. I could answer it when it rang and I could call out on it. I had problem trying to text because my fat fingers got in the way on that tiny keyboard. Everything else it did was, and still is, a mystery to me. But I do like asking Siri what the weather is going to be like today and when did movie stars like Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn die while I am watching old movies. But the best thing about it was I had to keep going back to the Sprint Store two or three times a week to ask questions about it and it got me a half dozen new young girlfriends. And whenever I stopped in at WalMart I always bought a package of Oreos to give them since the Sprint Store was located in the same shopping center WalMart was located. Didn't need to, it was working fine, apart from a weird semicircular defect that appeared on the edge of the screen. The S21 Ultra is amazing though. Even has a 100X zoom. Not that sharp at that magnification but useful for observing the Navy Frigate moored by me recently. Lower magnications are pin sharp and macro is awesome. Do we really need an SLR these days? For most things no.

I had to stop using my flip-phone, which only made phone calls and SMS messaging, because it became "obsolete." My carrier planned to stop supporting this "old technology." I had to buy a 'smart phone' so I opted to buy a 'no famous name' UMIDIGI phone and a new SIM card. Switching service took only about 2 minutes so I was able to keep my existing phone number! Yay!!! Well, not so fast. For some reason touch screens don't work very well with my body chemistry, which makes "swiping the screen" to answer an incoming call pretty much 'hit and miss' with 'miss' being the most frequent result. Of course the phone did not come with any instruction manual, so I've had to puzzle out the most essential operations. While I can take pictures with the new phone, I've yet to discover how to transfer those pictures to my computer. So, after nearly six months of using this over-sized brick, which certainly won't fit into my shirt pocket (as my flip-phone did), I now can mostly use the same feature set as I've had for many years; make and (sometimes) receive phone calls, and SMS messages. Well, okay I can now get notification of new Yoo-hoo-Tube videos that I've subscribed to. EDIT: Oh yes, I can even watch those videos on my smart-phone, even in full HD if available. Used to be an issue many years ago with the first smart phones, but you shouldn't be having that issue now. If it wasn't a well known brand, that could be issue. I usually press to hard I am told. The other problem I have is trying to get back to the main screen after answering or making a call. I swipe and I swipe but nothing happens. Then I turn it off and back on again and get back to the screen I was trying to leave. I turn the phone completely off and then back on again to get the main screen. May 2, 20215 yr Modern mobile phones are amazing information devices, but they are terrible phones. I still haven't worked out how to hold mine when taking a call.
