More recent versions of P3D look better than FSX in a number of ways, they have a cleaner GUI and from version four onwards, are 64-Bit versions of the ESP-based sim, meaning it does not suffer the VAS limitations which FSX and versions one, two and three of P3D are limited by, so it is unlikely to lock up or crash if you use a lot of scenery and fancy add-ons.

Fundamentally, all ESP-based sims have required you to throw a lot of add-ons at them to make them look okay, such as weather and cloud model add-ons, terrain enhancements, payware airports, photo terrain, and of course more complex aeroplanes frequently get added too, and all that means you need the 64 Bit architecture of the more recent iterations. Having said that, version five (the current version) is much better than version four, so if you have the choice, go for that one. It runs a lot better than all previous versions and so it can give you a significant increase in frame rates. Here's an overview of all of its its functions which I did when it first came out, this explains what they all are and why they will make it run better:

Why would you go to v4?  Why not entertain v5?

@Gary1124

As mentioned by Bert, your asking the same questions over and over and just the other day said your going to XP, prior to that it was MSFS. Perhaps go back and check your old posts since you’ve already made numerous FSX vs P3D vs MSFS posts.

I’m locking this one since it’s getting repetitive.
