Envtex vs REX Sky Force for P3D v5

Recommended Posts

What really annoys me about EA is that it can’t create weather systems!

It is really immersion breaking when a cloudy sky in a split of second changes to a clear sky!

The “other sim” does that much better, too bad there are no good planes for it and it does not support a lot of other stuff I can do in Prepar3d.

rob0203. This is not an issue with EA. The issue is weather depiction based on real time weather reports interpolation. The problem is really coming from the way weather is reported to NOAA/WMO. I have used AS. REX and P3DWX. P3DWX is the only program that reveals the issue which has been a problem with all the weather engines. P3DWX gives you a running log of the nearest weather stations that are being used for interpolation and hence weather display in the sim. The log reveals that their is a substantial variance in either visibility and or cloud dependant upon whether the report generated is auto or being done by an observer or forecaster. All the automatic weather stations do not record cloud either by amount or height only wind and vis. So in the space of say 100 miles or so you can jump from poor to good to not so good vis and cloud from none to lots etc. So given that it is of little surprise that the depiction in the sim is hopping about in the same manner, clear skies, then cloudy then good vis then poor vis etc.

IF you were flying for real you would be using forecasts which would be a bit more definitive but you can see out of the aircraft and therefore apart from severe wx such as Thunderstorms, you are only really interested in the destination or alternate weather in terms of minimums or severe weather. Unfortunately as cost cutting increases and automated systems become more common the detail reports of weather are lost to us. They are still being done by other parts of the meteorological weather reporting system world wide but these are not fed into the aviation weather reporting system but go to the forecasters and others.

In Active Sky without EA clouds you can have the immersion of flying into weather systems. I mean you can create the illusion by smoothing or by surpressing local changes.

With EA clouds on it seems that the software only can switch suddenly?

Also when you look at active sky map view you see the weather systems, but in EA it just changes suddenly.

The EA volumetric clouds are set to a default of global theme in TruSky, even with AS3PD running. If you turn off volumetric clouds (can keep EA on for sky, etc..) and use something like ASCA set to dynamic them, then you will get a more true weather picture. With Global Theme, the weather of where you are at is replicated the whole world over, hence why you cannot see different weather in the distance. HiFi has their software ready to go if/when LM allows dynamic theme volumetric clouds with TruSky.

But with EA on, surely you can still use ENVTEX for sky textures?

Ah i see, so EA uses its own Sky textures and clouds?

Sky textures yes, clouds ONLY if you use Volumetric Clouds...so the combination of EA ON and Volumetric Clouds OFF is the version you can still see REX Clouds or ASCA Clouds...

Ok,

Is it possible in ENVDIR to have ASCA and REX SF3D integration?
