Well i never said 99% of FSX users are using Prepar3D illegally.

What i did say was that P3D was costly when it came to purchasing payware aircraft, you can only use payware aircraft in that sim.

$60 isn't a lot of money that's true, but aircraft and scenery starts adding up.

I just hate to loss all those great FSX planes, many are just as great looking as any payware aircraft.

Well yes i purchased FSX Deluxe from amazon and the product key came up invalid, when i attempted to activate it online.

It somehow over wrote the FSX files i had on my desktop since 2006, i no longer have that product key. Now i can't get into my desktop FSX as a result, glad you were able to do so.

Someone here said that Microsoft activation servers were no longer working for FSX, since they now have a new sim MSFS 2020.

Now since you have activated FSX the question becomes, where can i purchase a new copy of FSX?

I'm about to purchase FSX-SE so i can continue to fly my FSX aircraft, my PMDG queen of the sky 747 and, my FA-18E Super-bug.

Buy the Steam edition by all means but you’re locking yourself into a 15 year-old sim that will never be updated and it’s not inconceivable those servers may be turned off at some point.

There are several sites offering the USS Midway carrier which is compatible with both Steam and P3D. Joining the Steam community is another level of complexity as they support many games. No such problem with P3D.

P3D v5 will give you better performance too and the visuals are miles better. Post your hardware specs so we can check if v5 is okay for you.

Well the computer I'm using is about 9 years old so, I'm sure P3D will have a hard time running on this computer.

There are several sites offering the USS Midway carrier which is compatible with both Steam and P3D...Glad to hear that as soon as i choose a sim, I'm going to purchase The Midway.

That was the first ship i sailed on during my time in the Navy, lots of great memories on that ship.

FSX SE is FSX Steam Edition.  You get it at Steam.  (steam.com)  It is the FSX you know with some enhancements. You do need to register at Steam.  A Steam app is installed on your system.  And the Steam app verifies (in the background) you each time you start the simulator.  It is transparent.  Your previous addons such as aircraft, weather engines, scenery, avionics, all should work just fine.  Mine do.  I am still logging 70-75% of my flight hours in FSX SE.

Just  to  add  my  2  cents  worth  in this  topic. You  said  you  pc  is   9  years  old already,  question is  that  in a few  year  time  or  even  sooner  you might  be updating  your  pc  and  if  you  can  afford  it  that is  i be  seriously  looking  to upgrade  the  pc  now before  you  start  to  install    your  sim and  addons, it  might  save you in the long  run down the  road

I recently changed the hardware in my PC and FSX Gold asked me to activate Acceleration online. I entered the product key from the packaging and it did activate online, so on that basis, I am making the assumption that the server is still working. In your situation, it looks like your decision to buy the Steam edition is the right one.  Before you do, you could always try a phone call to Microsoft? As far as I am aware, it is no longer possible to buy a new copy of FSX.

I easily ran FSX on a much older Win XP computer with a CPU speed of 2 GHZ and 2GB of memory.  It wasn't perfect, but ran pretty well!.

FSX Boxed Gold Edition got activated fine yesterday but Acceleration DVD didn't activate properly.  (I only did this as I just got PMDG JS4100).

For Acceleration  - this is the way to do it.

1. run regedit (Windowskey +R)
2. Expand the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS\{4D36E967-
E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side.
4. Delete all other values except PartMgr
5. Close Registry Editor
6. Start FSX / Accel and you should get the registration wizard.

 

Now after installing FSX Gold edition and activation - I ran FSX and then I installed Acceleration.  To get the Acceleration Activation Prompt - I had to follow the above steps.

For me the value for PartMgr was there already - I just retyped it again as PartMgr (pay attention to Upper and Lowercase) - do this exactly.

And fire up FSX ---- the internet activation prompt for Acceleration will come and I got that activated just fine.
