Why does the system re-install MSFS when an update would do

Driving me mad. I was on 1.15.10.0, which I thought was not that far out of date. I have not used MSFS for a couple of weeks and now it is re-installing the game (61.63 GiB) when I thougt an updated would be fine.

This is a crazy arangement and you have no control over this. Is this punishment for not playing regularly?

Are you on Steam, Johan, and have you activated the Verify files functionality ?

No, not on steam. Did not see the option to verify files. It just started re-installing from the checking for updates screen😡

Was hoping for a quick flight but now I am grounded.

If you have MSFS content installed to a custom folder, and you don’t point the installer to that same location when doing an update, it will do exactly what you are reporting. I don’t know if that is the reason the sim now wants to download 62GB of data, but it is one possible reason.

Did a reinstall to a new drive (new Store installer and Drm file downloads), dropped my OneStore folder backup into the new folder, pressed pause and closed the sim. Next time it restarted, it recognized the files were there, and stopped downloading.

You could try that route.

Similar happened to me, I installed an SSD for Windows only and pointed Steam at the existing MSFS on the old spinner drive. Steam found it and verified pretty fast. I thought I was good to go. I did this with my other Steam games and all worked fine. When I fired up the sim it began downloading 80GB of data. So I think I forgot to back up another file before I got the SSD. Where does this 80GB data sit?

Thats what probably happened. I was in a similar situation and I just pointed it to my d drive and it did the update instead of the reinstallation

Do you use multiple MS Store accounts? I once inadvertently switched to my son's account and got a 60GB download during one of the updates...

Very strange, nothing changed on my PC, not using steam and I ended up with exactly the same version as I had before the "update".
