Breaking News: PMDG will sell in the Marketplace

Recommended Posts

This is great if true.  Interesting comment he made saying "All of this is new"?  Not sure why there would such a long lag time.

BUT, this is great if it happens.

Decisions Decisions, I still haven't made up my mind where I'll purchase my PMDG aircraft when the time comes even if it means waiting for the choice of market, and then if FSL ever release an aircraft for MSFS is even more complex a decision for obvious reasons.

Lol... I bet most of the posters here won't have the patience to wait 6 months to a year to fly a PMDG AC in this sim!

For the 737? I assume in the same price-range as the P3D version. But for sure above $100. Or else they would have to give customers who bought the NGxu early enough even money back when they buy the MSFS version.

I was talking about the DC-6. Sorry I was not clear.

The NG I would think the same as your saying.

If the DC6 is released month, all I have to wait at most is a few  weeks to be flying it.

I wish PMDG well trying to take something like the NGXu and 777 into MSFS and having it perform well.  OTOH, when I look at the depth even of the Citation L my new nearly exclusive favorite I'm blown away with just how good it is, stock out of the box.   If you can't have incredible flights in the Citation L I don't know what to say.  I think Asobo has definitely balanced performance and image quality/complexity amazingly well, and I hope PMDG has some programming tricks to exploit to be able to get a decent performing NGXu working in MSFS.  Even more so the 777 which I really spent a lot of time in in P3D.

I completed a flight, first time, out of Queenstown NZ in the Citation L up and over Milford Sound and on up to NZAA, just referencing procedures in LiitleNavMap then selecting them in the MFD, using using the autopilot/autothrottle in NAV mode all the way up and it was absolutely astounding, from pushback in that fabulous setting, fabulous default airport and so on.  This is a simulation beyond compare.  Right now flying out of Zurich to Munich same same w/ just amazing traffic at dawn backed up at rwy34 in Zurich right on down into thick soup on approach to ILS 26R.  Even ATC has improved remarkably.   Sure I do look forward to seeing what PMDG can do but I for one won't spend a nickel unless it's clear they've figured out how to get excellent performance from their airware.  Never had anything this good in P3D despite $1000+ spent trying to make it shine.  Most everything outside of payware airports and planes was so wretched in P3D you really needed excellently modelled planes to make it woth the time of day.  That is so much less the case now I'd be happy if I never saw another plane addon for MSFS it's all pretty amazing out of the box.   IOW, a 'sim' is FAR more than an excellently modeled plane.  If n when PMDG can get it done right it will be the nirvana I hoped for decades ago.  It's already very close!

Interesting Video for fans of the DC 6.  Can't wait to get this aircraft.

That'd be an NG. All of that ridiculously convoluted 'NGX' and 'NGXu' PMDG nomenclature only relates to them tarting up their old FSX aeroplane for ESP-based sims. Their MSFS 737will be a from the ground up new product, but even if it did us some elements from older versions, their old naming evolution would mean nothing to many MSFS users; it would merely serve to confuse matters, so they'd be silly to call it anything other than a 737 NG.

Was there a military variant of the DC-6? If so, was it used in Berlin Airlift, MATS?

Yes, I flew in one, I think it was called the C 118.

There were several specialised military variants with various designations, the main version was the C-118 Liftmaster, which was the USAF's name for it, and the R6D, which was the USN's original designation for it up until 1962, after which they too designated it as the C-118 to avoid confusion.

the DC-6 and its military variants were not used in the Berlin Airlift, the US used mainly the DC-4-based C54 and the DC-3, but also a few other types, including the Constellation, Stratofreighter, Globemaster, Packet, Catalina and Liberator. The French used a lot of Ju52s and the British used pretty much every big aeroplane they had to hand, including the Sunderland and the Lancaster. The amphibious aeroplanes you see mentioned here which were also used to transport stuff, landed on the Havel River and stuff was conveyed to depots along the river on barges or loaded onto trucks.

Berlin airlift was primarily C 47's and C54's I think.  I know a couply of Sunderland Flying boats were also used.

The military DC6 was the C118 I think and I don't see any reference to it in a book on my bookshelf titled..   "The Airforce can deliver Anything"  by Harrington which is a history of the Airlift.

I remember that the seats in the one I flew in, twice to Greenland from New jersey, were facing backwards.

Most military aircfraft have backwards facing seats I thought as it's safer?  The only t8ime I wasnt facing backwards in a military was in a herc where we were crammed in sideways outside the Cargo.
