P3d v5 cannot find FS standard controls xml file.

Recommended Posts

When I try to start P3D v5.1, it gives a message "P3d v5 cannot find FS standard controls xml file". After quite a while, P3Dv5.1 starts. But P3D v5 forgets my Logitech Pro yoke and pedals control settings, i e Axis assignments, key assignments etc. Please help.

Regards,

Haseen Ahmad.

I would suspect a window update reset your usb power management. I always make sure my USB ports do not turn off.

Hi micstatic,

Thanks for your response!

How can I check USB ports are on? What else should I do?

Take a look in C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\Controls. There should be a file called standard.xml in there (there may also be a file called standard.xmlx). That is the 'standard controls XML file'. If it's there, check permissions to make sure it can be read and written to by non-admin users.

If it's there and permissions are OK, then I don't know why you would get that error message. In theory, if you remove the file it should be automatically regenerated, but if prepar3d.exe runs in a user context that cannot write to that folder and it is missing, then it won't get regenerated and that might explain it.

Same thing happened to me this morning. No idea what caused it. My p3d generated a new file with the default settings.

My system makes a backup on every startup, so I took yesterdays file and replaced the newly made one.

I had it happen and had to go back and reimport my old saved control file that I backup for these instances.  Also saw that a windows update had messed up usb power management settings.  I had this happen a few weeks ago if I recall.

I still find this link very helpful:

The free Lorby-SI P3D Addon Manager has a one-click backup feature that makes a copy of a whole bunch of P3D config files (and can restore them in the same manner).  As a matter of habit, I take a snapshot of my config files with the utility before/after I make any change.  It's made recovering from these sorts of nuisances a trivial affair.
