Where do I ask MSFS 2020 questions?

Recommended Posts

I'm close to buying MSFS 2020 to upgrade from FSX-SE.  I would like to ask the community some questions but I'm wary, having already been gently hauled over the coals by moderators for asking about another sim platform/product, I see I may not ask questions on the FS2020 forum, so please can someone point me to the right place (if there is one on AVSIM)?

@threebears, I've moved your question to the main MSFS forum. The Tips/Tricks one is only for imparting useful info for that sim.

Feel free to ask your questions here. I'm not sure why you were "hauled over the coals" for asking such a question.

Thank you Ray.  I must be missing the MSFS 2020 Forum.  I'll look again.  In respect to the 'ticking off' I got, it was about a question I asked about licences for another Sim platform which, I discover, I'm not allowed to mention.

@threebears, Andrew, you're in it now. Ah yes, any questions about licences for P3D are frowned on. If you want to PM me I'll advise you should you want to go down that route.

What can we help you with about MSFS 2020? I'm sure everyone here will assist in anyway we can.

So you have MSFS 2020 up and running now? If so that's good!

I'm trying to decide whether to go that route.

If you post here what your system specs are and how you use your current simulator, we could help advise. pros and cons of every sim choice at the moment.

Yeah. That's a NO FLY ZONE topic on AVSIM. The mods don't mean to be so hard purposely because they enjoy being mean to users. It's just a very very very touchy subject that has a lot of liability attached to discussion about it so they nixed any and all talk of it.

You're in good hands. Ask away

Pull the trigger and buy 2020.  You won't be disappointed and you won't look back.

Well I am very happy indeed. I used to fly FSX but the graphics were so horrible I just got bored. Not with MSFS2020... what a experience. I must stress making sure your rig (PC) is a upper end... check the sites specs on recommenced configurations.

How about the avionics, Nav data, cloud textures, live weather, ATIS/AWOS, depth of aircraft systems and aircraft features?  Sorry, it's late here and that is not a complete list!

At the same GPU/monitor resolutions the FSX SE and MSFS virtual cockpit quality are not different!

I admit it!  With FSX SE I fly North America and Carribean only, and use 48 states of Megascenery Earth version 3 or 4 hi-res scenery.  At 8,000 ft or above, with the exception of depiction of coloration of rivers, and especially experience with some or more cloud cover, there is little difference!  And with cloud cover and Rex textures FSX SE is superior at this time.  Without question.

Asobo needs to open MSFS up (SDK and license agreements) to the elements I mention above.  Until then it is VFR $100 hamburger run or world "where would I like to travel to and see from 2,00 ft AGL" entertainment!

MSFS is totally acceptable if it indeed fullfills your flying criteria.  No argument.  But it easily falls short for many others of us whose expectations for flight simulation is different.

Some "Pilot Experts", on this forum,  like to complain that MSFS doesn't live up to their expectations because they are so demanding. Most of this is pure BS, in my opinion. There are many airline pilots and career pilots that are flying MSFS 2020, and they actually fly for a living, rather than sitting in their chair staring at a computer screen. If they think MSFS 2020, is worth it, that's enough for me.

I started with FS2020 with a rig far worse than yours, and it ran pretty well, certainly far better than p3d or fsx would have with many £100's worth of add-ons to make it look better.

Even then FS2020 looks far better than previous sims. Avionics in defaults kind of work, but not to a high level - although WT mods & FBW can improve that to an increasingly large extent.

When it first came out I tried it, then went back to p3d for a while. Back to FS this year and 99% of my flights are now in FS.

There's stuff from p3d I miss, but FS is so much better it's no competition...
