P3D V5.2 is out now

Recommended Posts

For those who want to see today's solar eclipse in v5.2 EA, spawn in LFLL, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

PC specs: i5-12400F, RTX 3070 Ti and 32 GB of RAM.

Simulators I'm using: X-Plane 12, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and FlightGear.

Nice! Indeed v5.2 version looks more accurate.

Ok. Check the volumetricclouds slider position at high or ultra.

And the razor effect is a current limitation of P3D indeed.

Post at LM and tell them what you like and what you would like to see better the next time. It will help better to let them understand what users like.

They listen and read....and maybe respond.

Do.we know what the difference is between high and ultra texture size wise?

But you need to ask yourself, do these clouds look better than 5.0 or worse? pixelation is dependent on your hardware capabilities, this is a shot taken by someone.. I am showing capabilities here.. hehe

In any case this is how ActiveSky is currently rendering them.. they will provide more adjustments now that 5.2 is finally out..

S.

Yes, but I still see grid patterns, for me that is really disappointing. I really hoped they would have fixed that to make it look natural!

Let's hope indeed Hifisim can get rid of that!

Ran Delete Generated content after the install.

What do you mean by this? Is this mandatory after a full reinstall?

Updated by uninstalling/reinstalling the client. Performance seems great and overall quality feels much better.

However using the PMDG NGXu at Flytampa YSSY resulted in a CTD when clicking “Airport Map” on the EFB. Faulting module was menus.dll

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Yes you can check this in the volumetriccloud.cfg file.

Low 256

Medium 512

High 1024

Ultra 2048

The slider has impact on other related parts like

Shadow texture size

Cloud draw distances

Grid rendering

Etc. Etc.

I would post this at PMDG forum.

I've had this ctd not AND tested it often with PMDG 777 airport map (live map at efb).

But have experienced it with QW moving map in EFB

When I use EA I always get a DXGI Error Device Hung - Radeon 6900XT on latest driver. I installed 5.2 completely. If I start without EA, no problems, with EA DXGI Hung after 30 seconds. Any ideas?

Thanks Marcus, do you know if the clouds are DXT or 32 bit?

Are you talking about EA clouds? They are not "made of" textures, they are completely procedurally generated using noise within shaders.

No...even not sure if they are one of both because they are based on noise and not 2d sprites textures.

@BiologicalNanobot can you answer this maybe?

Sorry...missed your answer......that's when crushing from post to post at different forums.... 😂

You're right - EA clouds are noise based.
